greenish white foamy stuff??

i honestly dont think i have the ability to change a head gasket... i could be wrong, but i dont want to f-the car up even more, wish i could just take a week off but i cant do that i work every day. also i just dont need the extra stress of actually having to work on the car at the moment... also how well would a felpro gasket with ARP studs toqrued to like 75lbs hold up? im most likely going to go with a metal gasket but then more work is involved such as redoing the surfaces for the block and head.

i did my headgasket by myself for the first time last spring break. it was pretty easy. i used the oem toyota head gasket and arp studs not bolts and torqued them down to 81lbs. This is with my na-t. as for the surfaces, i guess its your decision based on how many miles are on the motor and if the motor ever over heated. if it was overheated then i would def get the surfaces cleaned up. if not just clean off the old gasket and slap on the new. the oem gaskets are somewhat forgiving. as for reference when i changed my HG my car had 50k orig miles and my headgasket was not blown. (i wanted a new oem one for my na-t) the head gasket took me about 2 days. and the rest took me 2 more so i had the whole car converted by myself and a little help from a buddy in 4 days. i think you can do it as well. if you have any questions during the head gasket change we are all here to help.

... and rule of thumb, never worry about wasting money on tools, tools are usually an investment, u'll use them countless times all through your life. My dad has had his set of tools for 30 years and they are all in great condition. and i just started my set. A great start is one of those craftsmen mechanic sets. (120+ piece) good luck. and as for your signature you should change it to " You only live once.. fix your supra!"

Well I m 22 now age does not matter b/c SM made me into pretty knowledgeable person on my car ..... I went from fixing everyone bikes in the neighborhood as a kid to working on a non turbo supra at 17. My advice you is buy your self a camera and take pictures of everything so can remember where everything was located before you took it apart and make sure you mark things with nail polish. Buy all the different colors and take the time to mark all the parts and connectors. Do not trust your memory. I tried to trust my memory when I was working on first supra and it failed me horribly.

I spent 4 months on a head gasket job but my second head gasket job on my current car took me a few days. But the machine shop had my head for a day just to check out and they did a minor resurface. I could have been done in 3-4 days keep in mind I am student, I manage valet company and I coach soccer in the evenings. I was working on the car in my free time during the day which is only a few hours and did the majority of the work on the weekend.

Seriously if you are not willing to learn how to do things yourself….. Get another car. A head gasket job will cost a minimum of $1000 at most shops and price only goes up. If you do it your self and have a machine shop inspect the head and do some work on the head it might cost you $200. A gasket set is like $150. For tools go and buy set of sockets and a wrench for like $30 while your at it buy some wrenches 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, and 19mm that’s all you will need to take the car apart. But buy a quality tq wrench (craftsman or snap on just to name a few) and the head gasket bolt “tool” I forgot what is called.

The head gaskets job would only be $350 I don’t count the tools b/c they will come in handy for a lot of things plus anyone with a car should have some tools. I hope you would not have someone change your battery and charge you lol :).

Or you could just buy a newer car …..

well right,, if i did pour coolant in there and i dont ahve a BHG would i still see foam? so is there a chance i really dont have a BHG? it was a small amount of foam

A block test will tell you easily. I keep telling you that...

Forget it. Take it to the dealer, and let them change the head gasket for you. A whole lot easier than the $25(?) block test kit that's pretty much stupid proof, if you can read and follow simple instructions.
