Should the adjustment be at fully soft? Mine was set to fully hard and I was getting surge, so I put it about 50-60% soft. I'm not getting surge, but it's not as loud as others have. Should I set it to fully soft?

no, then it may leak under boost.

you want to turn it up to hard. keep backing it down until the compressor surge goes away (full boost i'm talking). done. also, try to keep the vac line as short as possible and at a good source.

it is not a crazy loud bov anyway. but where you have it mounted, how much boost you are running, what turbo, etc will all play a part. louder does not mean its better.

Then I think I may have hit the sweet spot. I have stock turbo and stock boost. There is still a small amount of chattering at low rpms, and I can only hear it when the hood is open. Here's a pic of the engine bay, you can probably see the bov.

wow clean looking car!

yep, having it mounted on a hose like that does make it a little more pita. i never had my rs on a hose, but on a prev bov it seemed to work a little better when it was welded directly on the ic pipe. either way, sounds like you have it right.

edit: i see you are in AH, was that pic from the chi meet?

Thanks. I just got the car. So do you think I should just leave it the way it is? Before I did any adjustments, no air was coming out of the bov. Now, air comes out.

yeah, leave it as is. if you still get a bit of cha cha cha at low throttle/boost but blows off at full boost, you have it right.

I'm not exactly sure, like I said, I just got the car on the 16th. I think he said they were taken at Elmhurst Toyota.

It doesn't do that much chattering at low throttle, just a tiny bit. I didn't really check at above 4lbs of boost, because it's hard to convince my dad to bring it up to full boost. I'm just basing this off the stock boost gauge. I don't have my permit yet, lol. But I've been saving up for a long time for this car.

I have mine on my singled 1J set pretty soft, but I still get some surge at low RPM. I've never really worried about it as there's never any surge when lifting from a good amount of boost. And far as it not being loud, maybe it's because I always drive the car with the windows down, but I think it's decently loud.

So, what are you saying? Should I leave it as is or should I soften it up even more?

I'm just wondering why it isn't as loud as some other cars with the Type-RS, could it be because I'm running stock boost?

again, my vote is leave it as is.

yes, it isnt as loud as other cars because of stock turbo, stock boost, its location, and on a rubber hose.

also, yep that appears to be from the chi meet. i thought i had seen your car before.

I just took it for another spin, this time, when it was quiet out so I could really hear the turbo. It seems like at almost 90% boost, I still think I hear a little surge. Probably about 15% surge, 85% BOV. I think I'm going to probably soften it a little bit more, tomorrow. Does anyone have pics of their Type-RS installed on their 7M?

Doesn't the manual say to loosen it until it you hear an air leak at idle and then tighten it one full turn?

I ended up putting it back to the way I had it, almost fully tight. I figured out that it has to warm up before blowing off, that's why I thought it was too tight. I have it almost fully tight and it blows off and it doesn't stall.
