lets talk TD06! pick a topic

I'll start.

Things I like - easy bolt on turbo. Spools fast and good for around 400-450 HP.

Things I don't like - oil return line and elbow. MDC is working on making replacements!

I get return line gaskets from HPF. Would go to MDC for rebuild, not sure if he's ever done a TD06 yet.

It's a fun turbo. I had it, then I upgraded from a TD06-20G to a TE06-24V. Used the same kit pretty much, just a hella lot more turbo.

The 20G spools great too and is a TOUGH little turbo.

Help!

I was also under the impression that my TD06-20G would do 400-450 hp but am being told by the dyno shop that it is maxed at 360. Newest dyno sheet is in the photo bucket.

With my mods I am told that I should be putting down 400 easy. All I want is 425 ish and 12 seconds in the 1/4 mi.

I am being told that I need the AEM and not the emanage & Profec E01 and the GT40R instead of the TD06-20G.

Do I really need to spend more to acheive my goals? Anyone with similiar set up or mods out there? Thanks

It was 450RWHP@18PSI.

I think there's something else wrong with the tuning part of it. Timing sounds way off, and also you're using an automatic, but still...

How's the compression?

Racer - Compression test was done about a year and a half ago and the car has just sat since but all was good. It ran smoothly at 1.5 bar back a couple of years ago but dyno numbers are crap compared to where they should be. Would removing the Lexus afm and the stock ECU and replacing with the AEM ems make that much of an improvement? Thanks for the link.

Hottscennessey- thanks. She is a looker but "all show & slow go" is not what I was going for:cry:

Well we advanced the timing from 10 to 12 and it is running a lot better. And if you manually shift from 1st to 2nd to Drive it seems to run better again. So it looks like the auto tranny in Drive only is starting out in 2nd loosing 1st all together. So yeah it still is the tranny Adam. Crap.

eh, i wouldn't go advancing the timing. given your goals, you'll end up regretting that.

still the trans? not to be a jerk, but what have i been saying all along? :( hopefully now you can get the problem fixed once and for all....

To add, I made 360RWHP@12PSI with the same turbo, lex/550/walbro. I also took the 20G to 28PSI. It was fun for that split second Damned wastegate line blew off, and no detonation thanks to my injectors running at 55PSI base with a 3:1 FMU........... anyway.

JCF, here's your dyno for the lazy people, so you can get more responses :)

I'm new to tuning. Why running 55 base fp? Thanks for any help!

Why would I regret advancing the timing? They did it to Robbie's car too and it is running better as well and that is with the larger turbo installed too. What do you know that obviously I and perhaps they don't about not advancing it? Thanks

heh. cars always run better just before they blow up. advancing the timing is fine @ low boost levels and low power levels. but as you go up in boost level, you need to REDUCE timing (especially on pump gas) to prevent detonation.

don't forget that AFM scaling messes w/timing as well....i.e. you "lean it out" via SAFC/eman/etc. you are INCREASING timing.

Thanks Eric I found the old post on TSC. I just spoke with Mike at Precision on Eglington and he says that he can rework the existing tranny if I drove it up there and left it for a week for $2500. He's busy right now and I can't go up now anyways but from what he tells me Keith used to go through trannys like crazy due to putting down 450 to the wheels but now has no trouble. So I think I'll call him in the spring and set up an appointment.

What turbo is Keith running do you know? Also Emanage or AEM ems? Just curious. If you don't know do you know Keiths screen name on the TSC? I can just send him an email. Thanks again.
