Just did RS*R race springs this weekend - very similar to H&R.

Do NOT do this without compressors. I had compressors and the spring unloaded a good 0.75in (at least). So, lets be conservative and suppose they are compressed 0.5". The rear springs, at 459.2lb/in will be pushing 229.6lb of force on that top bolt.

It's plenty of force to make the top hat shatter your skull.

Sound like fun?

new england car will have frozen cam bolt's,so the alignment will never be right.lowering one of these car's can be pricey, when done right.

worst idea ever.....:3d_frown:

Just my $.02, with reasoning...

People are criticizing you using the stock shocks for a good reason. My car has 92k and was babied by two men in their 50's before me. Two of my struts moved up and down from gravity once I got them out. They were as useless as fallopian tubes on a lesbian.

Get new struts - even KYB will be better (and they are cheap). Put blown tems shocks on H&R's and the ride will BLOW. I wont get into suspension theory, but maybe WIISASS has something good and sarcastic to throw in here. I know I'd appreciate some humor in this thread.

Damping FTW.

Guys, cut him some slack as he never did spring jobs before. Just please dont risk doing it w/o spring compressors. There are many guides with pictures on the forum, just search it up. You can rent/ buy compressors at advance for cheap. Dont hurt yourself or others.

And please save up for struts too. Dont just so springs. You'll regret it.

Just put the upper mount in the vise, turn the vise so the jaws are horizontal and unscrew the nut on the damper shaft. Make it a game. Get a couple other players and see who can shoot their dampers the farthest. Get a front one if you can, it will go further.

And not that my last statement wasn't totally serious, but using a spring compressors takes all the fun out of it. Just don't aim the damper or upper mount at your face or the face of someone you like. The rears aren't preloaded very much, but the fronts are and the parts of the damper will go flying apart.

Spring compressors are cheap and you can even rent them. Harbor freight sells one for cheap and should last through at least one set of springs. Or you can rent them from some auto places for free/not that much.

And it's not that much work to swap springs on to stock shocks and then on to good shocks later on. But if you're shocks are blown, it's not even worth putting the springs on. Or just get new shocks and do it all at once, it will make things easier and better.

I have the same set up but front struts are tokico illuminas and rear are Hps. Got the springs and fron struts for a DEAL so i went out and bought HP rears. Very firm and nice ride plus the stance is nice.

yeah, I've noticed that today driving around, it does bounce alittle, but not much body roll compared to before. Can I just switch out the TEMS shocks for regular? or do I have to do certain mods/

no, I don't have new struts, I am using the factory for now until I save for bilsteins.

You went with the lowest possible drop and want to use your blown out stock struts?

Please do it once, and do it right.

Buy the bilstiens from a retailer on here, and do the springs AND shocks at the same time. It will save you a ton of time (only have to do the job once) and it will ride much better (as well as a slammed car will)

And enjoy the bilstiens they are a good shock.

Edit: I noticed you installed the already. its not going to roll much since your practicaly riding on the bump stops. Yes its going to be bouncy since your dealing with a much higher spring rate then your 150k miles 20 year old shocks were designed for (even when new).
