Sounds good!
At least the replacement pieces should be easy to get at a decent price later on. If you can do some of the teardown/rebuild to that corner, you should be pretty far ahead.

WOW.
just called and found out there was no record of my conversation with the last rep I talked to, who said he would get my check to me and it would send out the next day.

The current rep said they don't go off estimates from body shops they have agreements with for cash-out payments, but instead send out an estimator to look at the car.

Now I don't know what to do...call again and see if someone more reasonable will fix this, or go with the estimator? I'm baffled as to why the other guy said that, perhaps he messed up and then just deleted the record of his call to cover his tracks.

....not a good way to start my day, I must say. Never put faith in money that isn't in your hand! lol...lesson learned.

Remember.. the guy who hit your car doesnt have any play in this. Nothing you do will damage him at all. That being said... its free to talk to a lawyer. (said that because some people think it will hurt a "nice person" if they go to a lawyer)
Dont sign anything until you are completely happy and comfortable. You are in the right in this and dont let the insurance company dictate things to you.

Thanks Grandavi,

I called my body shop and he voulenteered to call State Farm. They said the same thing...so I called back again and got a different rep. I told him the story and he said that they do cash out under certain circumstances and since they have an agreement with this shop, they could authorize it. He called the shop to double check that it was approved by them to pay me, and when he came back he said its taken care of and I'll have a check, a copy of the estimate, and a letter that it has been payed out. I'm assuming that's a claim closure letter.

Either way it seems like it's sorted (although I am exactly in the place I was a week ago, so I'm not holding my breath) and I think it will be ok.

I can't go spend $1500 on a camera I was watchign on ebay, and I'll miss auctions further, but perhaps it's fate, we'll see. I'm currently weighing the risks of buying something so expensive given the history of my experience with getting what I expect.

I'm glad this is dealt with, I've spent most of the past few months on the phone and dealing with claims. I'm dealing with a whiplash neck tweak injury claim that has now developed into a lawsuit (I'm fine, neck is better); it took two months to sort out getting a new motherboard from ASUS because mine died (seriously I called 18 times or more and spent HOURS of my time, through miscommunication and an unacceptable replacement board), and then when I had a stomach bug I woke up at 3am to hear my car getting hit.

Having one less thing is nice, and the motherboard just came in and I finished my computer rebuild last night. It didn't look perfect but I asked for a new heatsink and at least I can get back to work with my business... so I'm just about down to one significant "deal with this" thing, and a lawyer is doing most of the pushing now.

Thanks again! I appreciate the support.
