Put a PL20195 on our 90T today. it's about 1.3" taller than the 10241 that's called for. Same bypass PSI and O.D. it's the ford application filter. I just tapped some metal shroud out of the way 1/4" and it's plenty clear. for some reason theres a metal shroud? over the motor mount???? Either way, the PL20195 fits fine. Figured I'd share the info.

Man is it a pain to get the filter itself in/out of that filter area. How are you supposed to do it? I usually have to push the lower Rad hose up and out of the way and wedge the filter out toward the front.

Fram? heck no. Pure one. "PL". I'm a Bob is the oil guy forum member too, and have been cutting filters open for years now.

That's great! I saw the "P" in the part number and jumped the gun to a Fram...as we both know, the Fram filter sucks!

I've used the stock yoter filter on all my supras, up till now... now I use the K&N one, mostly becuase it has that nut-type thing on the bottom that makes getting it on and off a buttload easier, since it is damn near impossible to get a normal oil filter wrench up to the nasty stock location

Wix = awesome for oil filtration. and if K&N's didnt cost so much more i would use it for that nut also.

i dont see why more companys dont put that nut on the bottom... it is worth the extra money to buy it.. makes it soo easy to take the filter off and back on..

this is a dumb question but why is it better to have a bigger oil filter?

I don't have problems getting filters off w/out the nut. K&N's are 2x's the price... won't pay it. not worth it in my book. I personally use Pure One's. but I'd use a wix/napa gold w/out thinking twice about it. I get a discount on the P1's where I work... so no point driving 10 miles out of the way to get no discount on the napa gold. I've had great luck with P1's too... oil stays so clean:) for the stock location... you can run the "longer" filter like i'm doing on my 90T. PL20195 is the part number. it's just 1.3" longer. It's a ford application filter FYI. Equates to the 400s or somin I think. Only thing I did was tap some metal shroud out of the way 1/4" and it's good to go. i'm talking about the metal shroud on the motor mount I think. 2 taps and it was out of the way.

Pro's of running a larger filter are A- Prevents the filter from going into "BYPASS" mode as easily b/c you have less pressure differential drop bc a larger filter will flow more. and B- Longer service life. those are you're 2 main reasons for it. I do it mainly because of reason A. Only draw back of the Purolator filters is they put the bypass on the dome end of the filter. so when they open you get "wash off". as in dirty oil going into your engine. but the P1's filter better than the wix I think. so running a larger filter will make it harder for the filter to go into bypass mode; if ever now. the goal is to keep the bypass closed and filter all oil.

Ive ran fram, ive never head any problems. The only thing i noticed while using the fram is that it doesnt seem to keep the oil as clean looking as long as the top dollar k&n that i now use. Too bad those links didnt review the k%n cause there expensive as hell, id like to know if its somewhat worth it.

cost much?

and here i am thinking that my filter at 13 bux was pricey.. lol

For the Supra...I paid less than $5 each + shipping for the Wix filters I use at the above link. I'm not using the stock filter though...it's about half again larger.

Will that Wix filter Part # 51348 fit in the stock location or are you saying that the one they list is ok but you use another yourself

I'm using a Wix 51342...it will not fit in the stock location...it will screw on the housing fine, but it's too long.

Go to the Wix site and look up the equivalent of the 1.3" longer PureOne PL20195 like the other guys are using. Here's the site:
http://www.wixfilters.com/

I did it using the PureOne Part # and came up with the Wix 51516

what would be the advantage of putting in a huge filter like the 51516 if it would fit

i checked the specs on the different filters 51516 and the 51348 they are the same except for the size of the filter and the beta ratio. the nominal micro rating is only a difference of 1 plus i have no idea what that is LOL!

ack holy crap!!

20 microns and 19 microns!!!

I will stick with my 8 micron filter thanks!!

wtf??

Bypass valve setting at 8-11 psi??

In otherwords the damn things in our cars wont filter shit!!! They will just bypass most all of it including during the most crucial time... under BOOST!!!
