Picked it up yesterday from a local shop. it's defiitely an aftermarket LSD which is good. Car drifts nicely. I looked at the ring and pinion and it's 9/41 which is 4.55:1 final drive. It accelerates nice and stays in boost. In short I love it :)

My question: is this a stock jza70 gearset? Seems a little short for a turbo mk3 to have eh?

Btw, I still have my old USDM mk3 diff (4.30:1 w/lsd) if anyone wants it.

Thanks,

My JDM diff just broke. They are much weaker than the USDM ones. Also, I found that the 4.10 ratio was too short for a high power turbo car. Much less time in boost, felt like less was work being done. I am swapping back in my stock 3.93. Glad I kept it as backup!

I bought this one from up garage. I know the owner personally and he actually picked the car that it came from. I'm quite sure it came from a jza70. It did have orange rtv on the case and the lash is really tight. It's definitely been apart at some point.

I had this one apart right next to my usdm lsd and they are nothing alike. Wen looking at the US diff I could clearly see the spider gears in it and some springs. I guess it's a torsen.

I'm pretty sure this new one is a trd. It has the bumpy surface on the casing and the big oil holes. It looks nothing like any factory toyota diff I've seen. Driving the car feels smooth and consistent when I break it loose and rock solid when I don't.

Does anyone ave a pic of a stock jza70 diff? I just wanna make sure.

Definitely a g series. Like I said I had them both (my old one and this one) apart. So I guess I have an aftermarket lsd in a GA70 pumpkin? Crazy. Someone went to a lot of trouble with this thing. The pinion seal is practically brand new and the lash is tight as hell (like .0004")

This short gear+w58 is a lot of fun that's for sure. I went out on my lunch break and played around today. It drifts like a big corolla haha. I think I'll take some pics of the mounts I made to fit it to my subframe. 1/4" steel everything! Super strong!

Anyhow, What gear ratios do you guys use for drag racing? should it be taller?

And to think I ALMOST bought a detroit locker.

Thanks for replys :)

Thanks,

That's funny, my 4x4 toyota truck had 4.56 gears.......with the factory 31" tire option though :biglaugh: 4.56 is a little too low for a street car, 1st gear will be almost useless, and 5th will be more like 4th. The cool thing is when you finally get the 26" dubs installed it will be just right!
