good gaskets?

Hey everybody, I am planning on doing a MHG job on my supra, I realize that this is a must, and am simply wondering what are some recommended and reliable gaskets. I know that OEM gaskets seem to be the most highly recommended, but at 300+ dollars these seem a little bit too pricey. I am sure there is something comparable at a lower price. I am looking at ITM gaskets from parts dinosaur, and am worried about their quality. Here is the link, and it appears to even include the valve seals??? I believe that is what is pictured, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong. http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/product1601.html I am trying to spend as little as possible but still have quality products. I realize often what you pay is what you get, but i also believe that is such a thing as a sweet deal

That doesn't look like a mhg to me. It saids it's graphite faced. You could use them for the other gaskets and things, but I"d buy a tried and respected head gasket like the HKS or the Cometic. I don't think you won't to be pulling your head again in a month becasue you wanted to save three hundred dollars. Good luck.

yes sorry forgot to mention that i will be sending that to the garbage and either buying a cometic or HKS headgasket and ARP headstuds... so you think that they will be suitable for everything else? oh and are those indeed the valve seals pictured in the bottom pic?

what you could do is what i did and just get something like that set and use all the other gaskets but the head gasket since for a mhg you need to know how much material is removed

i went with the stone gasket set and even though it comes with a hg (non metal) im not using it but for $135 or so depending on who you buy it from i'll use the other gaskets and buy my mhg when the time comes (block and head have been machined)

haha yeah that is exactly my plan... thanks for the advice guys, so would that set be recommended or no? of course I would not be using the headgasket, that is a separate issue. i will be using a kit like this specifically for the other gaskets, such as the parts that are removed from the head. Where did you purchase your stone gasket set? That is a fair price. How has it worked out so far? Were there any additional gaskets you needed to buy? and have you heard anything good or bad about ITM? this is mainly what I am concerned with. The quality of the gaskets in this kit, or other cheap kits like it. This as always excludes the head gasket because I will be performing the necessary measures for that process, and there are a thousand of write ups on that.

CLARIFICATION: Oh damn I am sorry everybody I see the confusion. I did not list that I will not be using this for the head gasket. this will be used strictly for the other gaskets upon reassembly of my motor after performing the metal headgasket process such as machining and ARP/ MLS. After re reading my post I see the reason for the confusion. I am wondering about the quality of the set for its other gaskets.

In that case you could buy the OEM gaskets and then sell the HG on ebay to get quite a bit back.

There are a few gaskets that people have issues with if they're not OEM. EGR Cooler, turbo lines, exhaust manifold, throttlebody, cam covers...

If I could do it again (and I eventually will be), I'd go OEM...

Oh... so what are the issues? is it poor sealing? or do they just not fit right? haha damn I was hoping I wouldnt have to do that. I dont have the money to be able to buy OEM gaskets and then sell the head gasket. haha seems like more trouble than necessary... But I guess thats why people like that OEM set. Do you know of any sets that are relatively problem free? haha I'm stretching here

I heard that Ishino gaskets are the same people that make the OEM gasket set. At least this is what one retailer is claiming. They also claim that it is a direct fit (as they all do) but I was wondering if this was a credible statement or not. If they truly are the makers of the OEM set than this would be great because they cost around 150 dollars. Thats roughly half of the toyota set. They are also a Japanese company so it may be possible. Can anyone shed any light on this?

OK, i didnt read through everything cause im in a hurry BUT..

i ordered that set, everything was good, EXCEPT the throttle body gasket... which i halfway expected, it even came with the fuel injector o-rings and seals. its a good kit, and nothing leaks on me, just be aware and clean when your installing/putting everything together.

Great! I'm wondering though by set do you mean the original parts dinosaur kit from ITM i talked about on page 1 or the more recently mentioned Ishino one???? But that is great news! :biggrinki

i once got the wrong bearings from him, he overnighted the right ones to me and paid for the return shipping like a REAL business should... he's never done me wrong in any way.

Damn thats good to know... so you got the full gasket set from him and everything worked correctly other than the throttle body gasket? Does this include everything needed for when I do my metal head gasket? Or should I call him and find out?

only other gasket i bought was my HKS MHG... and i just cut the opening on the TB gasket they send with it... but the funny part is that your going to have a ton of leftover stuff because they put the n/a and turbo gaskets all in one box... i even had TWO y-pipe gaskets that i just threw into my "box-o-gaskets"...

I used the Fel-pro gasket kit when I did my rebuild.

I think I paid around $250 for the whole kit.

They are quality gaskets.

Everything fits as if it were OEM.

My felpro gaskets suck...

EGR gasket leaks, cam cover gaskets leak, throttlebody gasket is wrong, exhaust manifold gasket is garbage and leaks...

Thanks this sounds like the one I will be buying then.... with all those extras that may be helpful seems like he has a hard bargain to beat if all of the parts are as quality as you say. I may end up purchasing some other stuff from him as well... Thanks all for the other recommendations as well
