*I was looking for a turbo Laser or Daytona about 2 years ago, but gave up after having no luck...
Pretty glad, because that's right around when I bought the Supra:)

*Anyway, I think I found a winner today.. it's an '87 Shelby Z ... Automatic ... T-Tops... almost perfect condition...

*Only 67,*** original 2-owner miles.. which I found is pretty rare for these cars.
*Just had new motor mounts, U-Joints, CV, front axle... within 300 miles.

Asking Price = $1200 obo. Good Deal? Sounded really good to me too.

Few Questions:
*Are these things pretty capable?
*What do you guys HONESTLY (flame on, compliment, etc...) THINK about Daytonas?
*Could I get up to 300HP or more, for less than $3000.. and done well?

Thanks,
-Josh

need pics of it.
Yeah I know the thread is useless without pictures..

Will have some tomorrow.

But just picture:
Or Imagine:
a near-perfect '87 Shelby Z with t-tops, the black grille thing on the back window, perfect interior, no faded paint at all... and "60,453" on the odometer.

I would say go for it. It's hard to find a running car for $1200, let alone one in great shape...

Haha yeah, that's all I needed.

Driving back down tomorrow morning with cash in hand...
Then I'll put some pics of the new toy on here.

So what do you guys think of these?

First order of business when it gets home?

Well I would have researched the availability of replacement parts and mods.
Last thing you want is to special order every little part you may need down the road.

Ive never really liked those cars....I remember seeing them on the road and even back then they were odd.

The rear reminds me of a bulky early 80's 924.

Didn't those Daytona's have the same motor as the turbo Omnis?

Yeah, a 2.2 I4 turbo...

And the Shelby one (like I'm getting) is supposedly engineered by Lotus and has nice stock suspension.

This one drives really well, T-tops will be cool... they don't leak either... and it seems a little more low-maintenance than the Supra.

Girl I knew back in the day drove one of those. She had the turbo replaced 4 or 5 times under warranty, thing kept buying the farm. Little stuff was broken all the time, too - typical domestic style problems, thing was about as reliable as a three party government.

Another fellow I know drove one for a few years, went through a couple engines and like 5 transmissions. Non turbo model, though. Switched to an Rx7 gen 2 and loved it for the reliability.
