Blue Book value only relects what is being reported to the state DMV for sales taxes and what these cars go for at wholesale autions. wholesale auctions get their cars from dealer trades, and dealers always low ball. As far as DMV goes most people alway report far less that what they paid to save on sales tax. I paid 8000 for my current MKIII, but reported 2500. I bought my last parts car for 2000 reported 250.
While I know this helps drive down the KBBV, I already feel that its an irrelavent value.
Its better to look around the forums and get a feel for what these cars are really going for.

Just to help out this represents about 15000 total investment so far. Damn I hope my wife doesn't see this.

6K seems like a nice asking price for me. Doesn't look like he is trying to cheat you.

alot of people are cheap and although they may have picked up a mint car a few years back or last year then consider themselves lucky.

The mk3's value is going up. More interest is comming to these vehicles as they are getting harder to come by.

if you ARE LUCKY you might find a lower mileage mint car off someone that doesn't really know what they have.

6k seems really fair to me. Just browse over the car real well. If you are interested in it then buy it. If i were the seller personally wouldnt go lower than 5500.

I had a kid offer me 8k for mine and I told him 10K. He was about to pay me as well but then i decided not to sell... Kinda wish I did because I'd have a mk4 by now!

only 15k invested i have over 25k invested

The point is my car looks about 95% stock and represents a big investment. There are members on here that have well over 75k invested. I'll be close to 30k before I think I'll be done.

I find it funny when I run into people at meets that say things like " I've never paid more than 750 for an MKIII". Then I'll see their car and think " Yeah it shows". Like four different paint colors, half the int. is missing or ratted out. Or my favorite They have like seven or eight different VIN tags throughout the car.
You get what you pay for. Sometimes you get lucky.
