I did a BHG rebuild and after running with fresh oil (and i'm on my second new filter in 200 miles) I opened the cap...steam, or what i think is steam, came out.

I figured this was steam from moisture in the engine so i have been taking the oil cap off and blowing conpressed air through my dipstick hole to blow it out through the oil filler every time i run it enough to get the engine to operating temp.

I was wondering if what i am doing is bad....and checking to make sure that oil doesnt make some mystery vapor i'm not aware of....and blowing out of my engine...lol. I highly doubt it, given the properties of oil... but, i want to be sure.

My air compressor has a air regulator/moisture trap so there was no moisture from the compressed air....only possiblity is moisture from air surrounding the engine blowing in when i didnt have the nipple of the hose directly on the oil dipstick hole..but i dont think its that much.

i figured that by blowing out any excess moisture i could would be beneficial, along with another oil change soon. but I keep blowing out steam every time, a steady gust of steam for 4-5 seconds. then not much unless i blast the air in quickly and let the air circulate inside the block...then a bit more comes out and i have to wait until next time. there seems to be less steam now but im checking to make sure i should keep doing this. lol.

i'll go find out how many miles are on my flush-out oil and post...then please give opinions on when i should change it to the higher-priced stuff.

Ummm cold air into a hot motor is going to cause condensation....... ;)

not to mention that compressed air usualy has condensation in it to begin with.. exspeccialy if you dont drain your air tank offten enough.

moisture remover.

and thanks for the condensation tip. of all people i should have thought of that because i've been playing a brass instrument for...12 years? yeah....condinsation is daily thing for me....lol.

thanks again IJ...dunno what i'd do without you.

and thanks pimp...i thought of that....i drain my tank after each use (because rust would cause an explosion that WOULD kill me with the size compressor i have) and i have a moisture barrier...

koulee...thanks. i never knew that and figured steam (water) shouldnt be in there at all.

hehe...thanks guys.

Your motor should burn off all the moisture inside (from condensation) by itself if you actually drive it long enough to get it fully up to temp for any amount of time.
