Has anyone done this successfully? I'm mainly referring to my own state, WA.

There are a few nice MKIII's I would consider; but, don't know how much trouble it is to get one licensed over here. Or if its even possible without it costing as much as I'd pay for the car.

One thought is to just go get one then switch the vin and all other identifiers from my wrecked 87 and call it a day! :naughty:

Not that I would EVER do that of course... :sarcasm:

legally, not happening. Duties, taxes, tarrifs is COST prohibited. Add EPA and DOT certs, and nearly impossible short of slight of hand dealings.

So answer is no. You can try but be aware that confiscation and sent to the crusher is what happens when customs is not happy.

Seems to me that one person on another Supras list drives a Canadian Supra and lives in the southeastern region of the US.

a few months ago i saw an ad in craigslist in the bayarea for a 1992 supra and I emailed the guy. he responded with saying that he moved to canada and he's willing to ship it. he said that ebay will oversee the transaction, he called it a truck at one point in the email, he reffered to it as a supra gt instead of a supra turbo, etc you see where i'm going with this i'm just sayin be careful i've heard of alot of similar cases

Hey Kenny, not gonna happen. Just listen to Nate. It is a waste of time and money. Just get a wrecked LHD and a clip and do the conversion. Only way other then leaving it registered in Canada and just getting trip permits. Other then that it isn't legal no matter what you are told. For it to be really legal you need a NHTSB bond release and a us subsitute vin plate ( which to get takes a few million and a bunch of crash tests) If you dont you will lose the car and everything in it. Or just end up with an unregistered paper weight. All this to be able to sit on the other side of the car??

I'm sure you can import Can cars to US. Just not RHD cars that in can to the US.

We use RIV.CA to look at the cars we can bring in... Basically the cars listed there pass both us and Canadian tests which allow them to be imported.

There was some kind of loophole where you could register them in florida I dont know if they closed it but I guess if you get it to florida then get a vin & title you could go anywhere in the US from there. I dont know if they closed it by now.

It's the same loop hole they use to get legit skylines here.... it's something crazy like it has to be assembled here.... you know just crazy and probably not worth the time or $$

Edit: by here i mean florida

Are you talking LHD or RHD?

Either I guess; but, I'd prefer a LHD.

What I'd really like to get is a GT-R! There are some sweet Supras over there though. Similar to Nate's. Nate's is sexy!

My cousin is a detective and I asked him about it today. He told me that if vehicular fowl play is suspected, an inspection is likely to occur. He said that each car manufacturer has unique types of rivets used to hold the vin plates in place. In particular, the ones under the windshield. Those rivets are nearly impossible to obtain for obvious reasons.

One example he gave is that during a traffic stop, IF for some reason the officer inspects the under windshield vin to compare it to the vin on your registration and sees 'Generic' type rivets, he is likely to clue in on that and it all goes down hill from there.

After he gave me his lecture...blah...blah...blah... ;) He then said that it is possible...the key is to make sure that EVERY EVERY EVERY identifier is switched. If one is missed, the car could be confiscated, disassembled (in search of the real vin), and never to be seen again. Not to mention the laws that one would be convicted of breaking...

He also mentioned that cars common to the U.S. (LHD and Models that are already here) will not draw as much attention and be MUCH easier sneak by.

Don't Canadians drive their cars in the states?

I've seen Ontario plates in the states before.

I am in Detroit a lot. yes Canadians do drive in the states. Last week when I was there, there were plenty of plates that said " Ontario "

If you had the person drive it here, then switch vins from a crashed US Supra everything will match, hell that is the way I would do it. It's no real big deal why we can't have Canadians cars. Customs just likes to make everything difficult.

lol! you're funny. But I bet you anything if the Supra was driven here which they are aloud to be.. you could just keep it here. If you swap all vins in MI here you won't have a problem. it's not like cops around where I am are goign to say get out we're going to run a back ground check. maybe In California you may have issues or Florida where they care about these sort of things.
Simple really. If I wanted a Canadian Supra it would be easy. I have no use for one.

But yes it's so damn funny these " Pipe Dreams "

improting a vehicle from canada thats registered over to the us isnt that hard. as long as the emmisions and saftey are up to our standard it dosent matter lhd or rhd (you can buy a taurus, windstar, legacy, suburban, blazer rhd in the us they sell them as delivery vehicles). all it comes down to is money, the goverment wants a chunk from you buying a car outa country. taxes and insurance are leagal theft
