Well, its pretty much over now, but here is how it went.
This is my 89 turbo targa that I purchased a little while back (not running) from a guy in Elizabeth City, NC. I have been doing all sorts of stuff to it since then, with plenty of help from my friend Squid699 here in Richmond. This is the 3rd non-parts Supra I've owned since 98. My first was a beautiful 86.5 pearl white 5spd, and the second a red 88 turbo targa 5spd. I have been involved in several Supra engine builds and projects over the years, both personal and assisting others, with many disappointments and successes. This is the most thorough build I have done thus far, but expect that there will be more elaborate expeditions to come.

I decided to swap the stock maroon interior out of the black car with the gray interior out of my old 88. I then sold my 88 as a red on maroon, which sounds disgusting, but to my surprise it was actually decent looking.

That's Chris working while I take a picture break.

I swapped everything that I had upgraded on the 88 before I sold it. Here is the car after swapping the interior, suspension(Eibachs, KYBs), drilled/slotted rotors, ADR wheels, and fuel pump(stock for walbro).

I had spent the last few months slowly gathering parts for the engine rebuild and putting it all together. The machine work was stunning, especially the block. I had it bored .020 over, resurfaced, and cleaned. I decided to go with nippon stock cast pistons so I can run tighter clearances and I do not plan to go too crazy with this motor. I think 400rwhp is a reasonable goal, and the stock internals should do fine with a good tune.

Rebuild and 5spd going in. My bro's 85 Celica GTS convertible can be seen next to mine.

Thanks for all the great feedback!

SupaMan: The interior wasn't too bad, the hardest parts were the trunk panels and the targa lining + side rails. The rest is pretty straight forward. The dash is pretty easy if you know where all the bolts are.

I have some video of the car running on an open downpipe, I just need to upload it somewhere and I will post a link. All thats keeping me from driving it is a clutch fork, and that is on the way from Champion Toyota!!! More pics to come after I clean it up some.

I did the other ball joint yesterday, along with the tie rod, exhaust, and fan. I also wired in the stock stereo harness since the previous ownder had cut it :icon_evil , but apparantly I need a different adapter harness for the stereo... looks like they are different from 88/89. Oh, and thanks a lot for bringing up the freeze plug and door hinges... so much for blocking out those memories lol. Basically, the lessons to be learned here are 1: don't forget to put the little freeze plug in behind the timing case and 2: when changing door hinges, do yourself a favor and take the fender off first thing.

Here is a short video, I will hopefully have one that shows more up soon:

Thanks! We are definately on the same page :icon_bigg

How'd the other Ball joint go?
It went OK... I just cut off the side of the bolt with the dremel, but if I had to do it again I would have tried taking the bottom strut bolt off first. The tie rod was loose like the other side.

Car sounds awesome Geouge! I can't wait to see this thing in action
Thanks! I want to see YOUR car in action, though I hope it won't make mine feel like my Hyundai afterwards. Thanks again for the water pump too.

Here is a longer video, much more has been buttoned up since this, so more pics and video to come!
