Gauge pods mounted on steering column

I've seen some people with gauges mounted on their steering column, and I'm wondering how they did it? Do you put a big T-clamp on your steering column or something? Is there a kit to buy to mount gauges this way or is it custom fabricated?

Thanks.

Use the Autometer cups and just screw them into the plastic. You might want to grind a little off the tips of the screws because there isn't much clearance.

Anyone got pictures of this? I haven't seen pictures of people doing this yet (guess I'm a bit behind on this).

ok thanks for the info guys... i decided to get these pods:
http://egauges.com/vdo_acce.asp?Subgroup=Pedestal_Mounts&Cart=1

i bought 2.... one for the wideband, and another for a future EGT pod. seems a little pricey, but its got the swivel so i can get a good line of sight, plus want to see if i can get them to mount at an angle on the top/sides left and right of the column, like have them pointing at the 10:00 and 2:00 positions.

i'll take pics when it's all done, thanks :)

Hm i didnt even see this thread, but i just finished the fabrication of mine today... i just felt like learning some fg stuff so i went out n got some resin n cloth. for my 1st mission i did this haha. I got the first thing i could find that was of similar size to my 2inch gauge. i got the cap off my cat's treat bottle. I formed a 5 inch long tube and let that dry, then cut it to get the piece out.

Then i put another piece around it to close it back up, and used the resin to stick it to the column piece ( i took it out of course). Then i put a band of fg on top of it and sloped it over and resin'd it. Then i covered in the spots i missed when i draped it. It looks kinda crude, and def not perfect, but im feeling good for my first try at it. Next time i think ill use chicken wire as my mold. Anyway you can find a few pictures of what i did @ www.tmobilepictures.com/Xarewhyayen

I'm going to sand and paint it up tomorrow

Thanks man.. i also gave myself a pat on the back... hopefully i get better though haha

P.S. Use a dustmask when cutting or sanding.. that stuff is dangerous... and the resin is really really potent... i did it outside. and still had to take breaks for air.

Did you use a screw or a bolt/nut? Because i dont see where the screw would hold on to.

I used 2 screws, they go down through the bottom mount and straight through the plastic steering column cover. You can see them in the bottom pic.
