I used Felpro for all the bits and pieces. There were a few exceptions... I used an HKS head gasket, or course, and genuine Toyota for the exhaust manifold. Oh, and the EGR cooler. After I blew out the Felpro one. And I *think* I used a stock Toyota for the thermostat.

The stock metal gaskets for the turbo to downpipe and exhaust manifold to turbo, I just reused used my old ones.

The only downside to the Felpro kit (outside of the actual head / EGR cooler / exhaust gasket) IMO is that it doesn't actually come with everything - I bought a full engine kit, and there were a crapload of extras, but things like the block to rear timing plate wasn't in there.

I got a CHEAP gasket kit for my BHG repair. I used Toyota head gasket and exhaust gasket and everything else was from the $75 kit off ebay (Mizumo was the seller).

It's worked just fine.

If I had a turbo, I'd go toyota for all exhaust manifold, intake manifold and throttle body, but fel pro or similar for everything else.

You reused your 20 year old gaskets?

Sucks as I already installed the felpro egr cooler gasket but head is still off the car so no big deal I guess.

As far as the timing cover gaskets...I don't need them as I haven't removed it....even then i'd use fipg over the thin waxpaper gaskets....I just want too make sure I have the banjobolt seals for fuel lines etc....just the hundreds of tiny crap.

You're lucky, but definately replace the EGR cooler gasket. The stock gasket is like the exhaust manifold gasket and not paper.

LOL - no, I'd replaced them on a previous build, but with genuine Toyota parts, so they were only a few years old.

Probably could, though, they are plain metal gaskets.

When I got my uber cool JDM tYte motor, I had it apart on numerous different occasions, every time I put it back together, I re-used the exhaust manifold gasket, turbo-> manifold gasket, and turbo->DP gasket. None of them ever leaked.

ive even used the eristic ebay gaskit kits with good results

Me too... for the 2J anyways. Toyota won't fail you, but if anything I'd only use 'em in the hard-to-get-to places... Front main seal, oil pump seal, cam seals, and rear main seal... others can be from anywhere else (just about)...

Stone set FTW. You pay less, because you get what you need instead of all the other random gaskets the felpro set comes with. Not to mention Stone gaskets are up to par with the Toyotas, when comparing them i can see no difference in quality.

I used eristic with great success..Except I just blew the headgasket and the oil pan gasket doesn't work (duh). It came with some random gaskets that I have NFI where they go.

I ran a felpro HG with an upgraded ct26 running over 16psi for over three years. Stock toyota head bolts torqued to 72lb/ft. Eventually my #1 cylinder detonated and the ring lands shattered. But HG didn't fail. That's just my experience with felpro. I'm going to use another one on my next build.

Toyota >/= Stone > Making your own > FailPro.

Have any of you taken a vernier to any of the seals? Or had a felt pro, stone, and toyota kit in their possession for the 7M-GTE at the same time?
