The lid for the gas tank won't pop open when i pull the lever. I now i have wedge something under the lever to keep it up then pop the lid open with or screwdriver. Has anyone experienced this? How can i get it to work properly?

Sounds like your cable is broken somewhere or is so stretched out that it isn't working properly anymore. Time to replace it. Do what I did before. Instead of forking out the cash for a new Toyota cable or even bothering with another used one, go to a bicycle shop and get a good length of brake cable and run that. I never had any problems after that.

Well i know it's not broken so it must just be stretch beyond working order. Can i get a quick how-to? Or just where the cable is located may suffice.

Most likely its the spring thats weak, broken or missing, its wedged right in between the door and the door hinge itself, black little spring that pops it open when the gas release lever is pulled up, see if you have that black plastic/metal piece..

The cable is stretched or broken most likely from wear and tear over the years. junkyard or ask someone in the hundreds of parts outs going on. post in the wtb too.

gas door springs are cheap as hell as well from the dealer. Its the cheaper alternative and worth a shot.

Only 2 possibility's.

Pop your hatch open. Remove small access panel on the right. Reach in there and open it (helps if you have small arms)

I had a similar problem, it got worse in the winter so I unbolted it and put a few stainless washers behind it to move the little tab out. Seems to be a good solution for now. But replacing the whole cable is the right way to go about it.
