gas gauge stops working... what do i do now???

well i was driving the car and notice that the gas gauge doesnt move(stays in middle) so i fill up but the gauge didnt work...

my first though that it was the gauge... since i have a spare gauge i went and use that... still no luck...

i also have an electroninc gauge that ive been planing to run... but when put it on no dice.. the gauge doesnt seem to read any sender...

-after that i intall back the old gauge and the thing just went down to empty very slowly..but i know the car is full since i just fill up the tank??

um any idea... is it just wiring? how do i fix this?


also out of that question... but whats the ohm reading for our car(gas)? (empty and full)

Clean the sender - it has an easy access panel in the hatchback near the spare tire. It gets gummed up over the years.

More than likely a dead sender in the tank.

There's an access port in the hatch area so you can swap in a new one without dropping the tank!

Three bad gauges...Nah. Something else is wrong.

Check the sender as mentioned above.

Lord how i wish there was one for the fuel filter and fuel pump, too...*sigh*

sender. plus, the sender resistance is odd, its like 8ohm empty and 108 full... IIRC. i think its reversed from how aftermarket guages operate.

i actually found a gauge that came close to that...

0ohms at empty and 90 ohms at full... its the closest one i found...(i just gatta remember that i gatta fill up b4 i hit to low...)

but this will allow me to remove ALL the gauge except the tac and speedo from the cluster... yeah...

I just cleaned my sender this morning, and guess what! my gas gauge now works perfectly!!!!
