Gallery Cover socket set screw idea

I had to tighten the big 14mm set screws that hold the gallery cover in place.
I know you can buy the 14mm hexagonal wrench but if you do not want to buy it, here is a cool idea.

Use a 14mm head bolt. The head will fit in the gallery cover set screw
and you can mount two nuts on the threaded side of the 14mm bolt and use your 14mm wrench to tighten those galley cover screws.

Is this a cool idea or what?

I've been doing this a while though. I thought thats what everyone did...lol. I usually weld the nut on the bolt though, and throw it in my tool box when done.

Actually, I originally didn't get the idea for the supra.... ha.

I actually thought of that the first time I had to change a front tire on my 04 gsxr... ha. 24mm internal hex...

Good sharing Roy, but typically they are more torque than two nuts jammed together can support. (Unless you tig them to the bolt)

This is the method i use. Works well. 2 nuts ensure that you can turn in both directions.

I have an extremely strong bolt I found. It will not break.

I just bought one nice long nut for the job. It's got a permanent place in my toolbox now.

Ive always used a 14mm bolt and some vise grips. then I found my dad had a 14mm allen wrench after I didn't need it.

Using the correct tool is FTW! I just got a bigass 14 mm allen key (as opposed to a small 14 mm key )

Although clever little tricks like this are good when you don't have the right tool around the shop and just gotta get it done!
