hey guys,

i just went to start up my car today for the first time after the rebuild, and as soon as i connect the battery, there is a buzzing/hissing coming from the kick panel where the fuses are.. i can feel which one is buzzing, but i cant seem to find a diagram or picture that tells me what it is exactly

the car will not start either, not sure if it is because of that or not.. it is a black square that sits right above all the fuses

any help would be appreciated

its actually a brand new battery, i get power to everything in the car.. when i try to crank, it does not attempt to turn over, i tried to connect a piece of wire from the pwoer on the starter to the square connector on the starter to see if i could get anythign that way, and i hear the starter shoot out, but still does not turn over...

Hmmm, that should definitely make it crank. Can you turn the motor over by hand? If yes, then I would check all your battery connections. You could be getting a voltage drop when cranking due to a bad connection at a ground or positive cable. If no voltage drop, all cables are tight and clean, battery is fully charged, and jumping power directly to the solenoid terminal of the starter does not make it crank, then the starter must be bad.

so it turns out that it was in fact the starter.. i went to crank it over to get some oil pressure before starting it up and unfortunately my oil pressure gauge does not budge, not sure if it means i have no pressure, or if the sensor or gauge isnt working..

yea i actually did eventually get it to start, but it only stays on for a second or 2, and then it dies out, and i do have pressure once it starts.. so now im just trying to figure out why it wont stay on

make sure all your grounds are hooked up. there is one on the drivers side attached to the block. i believe it goes to the battery.

yea my ground from the block to the battery is connected, also have the one from the wiring harness to the intake manifold, one from the head to the body, and one from the tranny to the body..

Is the connector for the oil pressure sender clean and making a good connection to the sender. Their should be a rubber cover to protect it but I would inspect that. Also on the oil pressure gauge, the gauge itself has a little tiny metal peice that connects to a peice of plactic(mine broke awhile back). I would inspect that if you take your gauge cluster out as well as the connections on the back of the cluster.

the oil pressure gauge is actually working now.. im able to get the car to start briefly for a few seconds, but then it dies out..

im not too sure but i think it may be a fuel issue, i notice that after its running for a few seconds the fuel pressure drops to '0' and the car turns off.. i also have no residual pressure showing on the gauge after the car is off with the ignition key still on.. any ideas?
