Funny thing happened...

I installed my RC 550cc and the car ran fantastic at 10 psi; much stronger and faster than before, but I had horrible wheel hop in first and second gear. Well it seems my passenger traction control arm is bent. :icon_mad:

But that was not the only bad thing that happened today, I was on my way home and decided to go WOT in first gear; the engine was building boost and then at 4k, I heard a soft pop noise and boost fell back down to zero; after that I let off the gas pedal and babied it home. I thought, darn another popped intercooler pipe or maybe a bhg... glanced at the RPM gauge at idle, it was stable.

When I arrived home there was no smoke out the tail and none of the intercooler pipes had popped; so I took the car out and beat on it. Well now it can only boost 5 psi... so I'm guessing my eBay wastegate spring is dead.

Anyone think otherwise?

Boost leak? Maybe you're running rich and it backfired (pop noise) and the same time your 02 sensor got gummed up with unburned fuel and it's making it run crappy? :dunno:

Check to see if there are any thrown codes and get back to us.

My guess is split hose. Idle is fine as the hose has enough tension to hold up at idle, but under boost, it opens, and your blowing air out.

Should be blowing black/gray smoke under boost. (Running rich.)

What turbo/manifold are you running if you have a Ebay WG? What pipes? What type of hoses and clamps, and do your pipes have flanges, bumps or a way to keep the hoses on the pipes under boost pressure? If your going to run much boost, often worn out worm clamps can jump a few teeth, and appear tight at idle, but are loose, and allowing boost leaks too. If the pipes are held in place by other stuff, they will not pop apart, but just blow air past the loose clamp. (I like T-bolt clamps personally, but they can get expensive, but they are pretty bullet proof.)

To me, it does not sound like a WG issue, but a hose/pipe/IC issue. Also not much chance you blew out an injector seal, I'm guessing your RC's came with new ones right? And you lubed them up when you installed them, so you did not rip them... (WD40 works fine here, you just don't want them getting caught on an edge when you put them in.)

Split hose happened to me too... right at the TB. Didn't realize till my rebuild. i havn't had a chance to drive it since.

I'm just using regular screw clamps and silicone couplers, but when I installed the injectors I only used WD-40 on the o-rings that go into the fuel rail. I didn't put any on the larger o-ring which mounts onto the engine head.

The injectors are used, but flow tested. The rubber was still in good shape; no small cracks or hard.

As for the eBay wastegate, I have the 60mm HKS style. I've heard of the spring losing tension, so that's one of my guesses. But it's highly possible that I may have a split hose. I just did a quick glance around with a flash light, since it was dark.
