Very last item. I don't have a scan of the owner's manual with me.

So I will "Run out of gas" after 16gallons is used?

I doubt it. I think the last 2 gallons are probably used to cool the fuel pump and probably will be picked up, even though it's hard on your fuel system. Be smart and fill up when you hit a quarter of a tank to keep your pump and fuel hoses cool and particle free.

The fuel sender in these tanks is notoriously off. I've repaired mine. It shows full properly, but when I have 1/2 tank left it shows just over 1/4. When the sender was in need of repair, it got so that it would never read more than 1/2 tank, ever. If it was more than that, it would read below the "E". Now at least it only shows empty when it means it.

I've coasted into the gas station and put in 68 liters of fuel. Most times it's not possible to put in more than 65.

Hope this answers the OP question.

Note: Stock capacity being 70 liters, but that does not take into account the fuel pump and fuel sending units, plus internal bracing in the tank. Also, you cannot get to COMPLETELY drained, or the fuel pump doesn't pick up enough fuel to make fuel pressure, and the ECU will shut off the injectors.

Never understood the low fuel/pump overheating argument?

When the fuel is that low the motor stops followed by the pump ;)
(hint Bosch 040 and 044 are identical pumps the 040 being the in tank pump the 044 the external)

The less fuel in the tank, the worse it will be at dissipating heat from the pump. It's just like how a large pot of water takes forever to get to a boil.

On a scorching hot summer day I got stuck in traffic with about 2 gallons left in my tank of my old 2000 Infiniti I30. The fuel pump died and left me stranded for the first time in my adult life. I blame only myself, as it was one of the few times I've ran a car that low on fuel.

Very strange concept....

If the pump can suck fuel it's being cooled

If it can't suck fuel the motor stops.
(unless the manufacturer has used a pump that's marginal for the job)

wtf? it says to use 91 on my ge? thats way too expensive.

Ya, that caught me off gaurd too. I had always thought the GE was 87 or 89 at sea level, 85 or 87 at high altitude. My owners manual proved me wrong the other day.

How many N/A people actually only use 91 or higher?

I ran out an 87 7MGE on purpose back in 95. I put 18.1 in it. They are right, you won't get 18.5 in it. You might not get 18.1 in it.

I agree with IJ, the only reason not to run that low on gas is if you where boosting and you lost pressure...

Not gonna hurt anything else

Also, that's RESEARCH Octane, 91 research = 87, 96 research = 91

not necessarily. most octane numbers are displayed as (research oct # + motor oct #)/ 2. (RON and MON are determined using two different tests, with two different types of test engines)
