:1zhelp: my fuel pump when out this weekend  and i want to get some oppinions on what pump to go with.
i talked to my guy at toyota and he gave me the price on a new one he also said to ask if anyone knew if i could upgrade to the TT pump(which is cheaper). He is a big celica guy and he said that he runs the TT on his altrac.

i also know that walbro has a replacement one but i have been told that it is kind of noise.

any help would be apreciated.

thanks
Aaron

idk ive heard mixed things. Some have told me the walbro pumps are direct bolt in but then again some have said you ahve to do some cutting welding etc.

I know the MKIV TT pumps are a direct plug and play drop in.

Both the Walbro and Mk IV can be used. You have to change the wiring harness on the Walbro. IMO, the fuel pressure curve is superior on the Walbro.

BTW...I have the Walbro installed. Can't hear it at all.

was that difficult to install... just the wiring right? and of course dropping it in...

The biggest PIA is dropping the tank. For the pump itself, just splice the wires for the harness. You have to use something to secure it to the bracket...I used a piece of 14 gauge copper wire. While you got the tank off, you probably want to change the fuel filter...much easier to get to with the tank off.

yeah I figure I won't even have to drop the tank as I have a hole in my trunk the size of the spare tire... basically when I bought this car the spare tire well had been rusted out... so I said when I change the fuel pump I'll just weld a flat piece in there... so I'm hopin I can get to it through my trunk... lol...

It is easy to drop the tank take your time and make sure your disc everything. I have the Walbro 255 in my car and it is not noisy at all you can't even hear it. You will have to cut wire clip off at the old pump crimp on the new ones and zip tie that bad boy down then the J tube return will need modifed if you look it over you will see that one end is very small on the inside. If you do not cut this small end off or drill it out you will run super rich on Deacceleration. It took me maybe 45 minutes to change the filter and pump and no problems since

i have the walbro and the 12 v mod. little louder than the stock pump. replacement was easy. i used a hose clamp and a couple of zip ties to hold it down. 8 months and no problems yet.

Drain your tank of the fuel. It'll be so much lighter to mover around and put back in.

yes this is a good thing to do... I just got done doing mine last weekend and it had a full tank... it took us forever to drain the thing... I didn't have anything that could hold a full tank of gas so I had to do it like 3 gallons at a time... after that it went smooth though...

How much do they want for the pump and install? Its a 1/2 - hour job, walbro 255 is waaaaay better then tt pump and basically drop in (just need ziptire and wire connector) It goes for around $95-100 bucks shipped. Just make sure when u drop the tank you have very little gas maybe even let the gas light come on, it seems like it would be hard but its real basic
