I searched on the forum here with phrases like "walbro installation", and "fuel pump removal" with no luck. I even looked through the TSRM...90 something pages in that section. If it's there I missed it. I need help with changing my fuel pump and do I need to actually drop the fuel tank ? I know there is that access plate in the trunk next to the spare tire, but it is not that much space in that area. If someone knows of a thread here on changing/removing fuel pump, please clue me in ! Thanx guys !

The access panel is so you can unplug the pump and the fuel level thing lol...you must get under the car and unhook fuel lines "3" in total....drop the tank and remove pump.

Remove the gas cap and unscrew the shroud around the gas cap before you do this.

thanx man. This sounds suspiciously like I need to call some friends over to help support the weight of my full gas tank when I drop it, lol. That, or go drive around and burn a good bit of the gas out.

Depends on how much you use your trunk, I just cut me a nice big square hole in my trunk floor and made me a plate to go over it, took me a cutting wheel on a grinder and bout 30 min tops to completely change it, solid gold

Interesting technique...I don't wanna cut my floor though.

I just dropped my tank to clean and check for rust, was not too bad, but get it as empty as you can first. The front bolts on the straps were rusted on mine, so popped out the strap pins in the back, worked pretty well just a little tough getting it back in the car.

I also have a set of stock fog lights in good shape if you still need them.

Yea I'll drain as much as I can off. Are the fog lights 89 model ? How much do you want for them ?

Thanks ISNMS! My internet time is very limited, I didn't want to go look that up.

One thing I need to add is that on the metal fuel line, you should loosen the nut off of the line, rather tha loosen the inside piece. Many people have broken their fuel line by twisting the wrong piece.

I will def keep that in mind..thanx for the tip !!

Oh and WhtMA71...yea I knew about the drain plug on the tank...thanks for chiming in !

Sure thing Forced. Good info in your Article :)

The way I did it... drain the tank -
I used the old pump to pump it out.

Now I have an Aeromotive AFPR, so I just emptied through the spot for a gauge, gauge removed and barbed 1/8fitting with length of hose hung into a 2gal gas tank. Had to stop two times to empty it into another car.

If you have the stock FPR, you can disconnect the hose at the 'J-tube' or where it attaches to hard return line under car. Connect your own length of hose, doesn't have to be fuel rated you're only using it to empty tank.

The run the fuel pump test - jumper Fp to +B. It will empty your tank in no time and no messing with the drain plug.

Don't forget to reconnect the j-tube ;)

Thanks for posting up guys. Is the 12v relay mod really necessary ? I also am wondering if the Walbro will push too much fuel, because I still have stock injectors, and I am wondering if the oem regulator can handle the fuel pressure. I would just get a OEM fuel pump, but they cost more lol, and if my stock injectors can handle it, I really would rather have the Walbro. I don't want to end up buying 2 fuel pumps, 1 oem now, and a Walbro for when I get my 550's. Should I just keep my weak fuel-pushing oem in there until I get the other stuff ?
