Amps don't push voltage. Amperage is the actual flow, resisted by....resistance. Voltage is the push, the difference.
 
Here is a good link to learn about wiring Ohm's law which is Amp Resistance and voltage. You can calculate any of the 3 with the formula. There is charts in here to calculate which size wire to use for distance vs load. This is what use for aircraft when we do Avionics installs. Same 12 volt princpal as cars. Yes I know its not an aircraft but it works and will never fail you. It will even tell you which wiring type to use in a fuel environment.

Sorry about that the mention of wire type is an another section of the manual. If you go to original link outside the PDF and read through its there some where.

Here is another link for splices that I would recommend for fuel tanks or anything inside engine bay. They are the best splices you possible can get for environmental and pretty much anything. You can pull the hell out of the wire and it is not coming apart. These are not to be confused with the cheap POS splices they have at auto parts stores that claim there environmental .
