If I got a Walbro 255 would I need to get a AFPR kit if the fuel system is not going to be up graded. Its only a for a replacement because a new one is more than $100. The only upgrades I will have are a drop-in K&N filter and a 3in turbo back pipe. Maybe a few psi if I can get a gauge and MBC.

I am pretty sure that you can add the walbro 255 without upgrading the rest of your fuel system. Although I haven't done this myself.

I was thinking that also. I dont intend on doing much to it right now as its just being brought back to life. Its really if the stock fpr can handle the 255 if i remove the j-tube or bypass it on the return. thanks

with the walbro fuel pump, you MUST drill out the J-tube, lest you run ridiculously rich. your stock fuel pressure regulator will be fine, but the J-tube WILL NOT bleed the pressure off fast enough to the return line. just follow the return line from the fuel pressure regulator down to the metal pipe that's bolted to the side of the block. that's the J-tube.

to drill it out, take off the rubber hose that connects to the back of it, (going to the back of the car and fuel tank), and simply drill it out to the size of the rest of the inner diameter, or bypass it completely with some new rubber hose from your local autoparts store. (it doesnt have to hold crazy amounts of pressure, as the return line is NOT pressurized.)

Is it necessary to block off the hole? What is behind it that needs to be covered?

you can simply drill it out, or take off the plate, grind off the actual j-tube fuel pipe, and paint the remaining plate. that's what i did. :)

however, behind that plate is a hole (as lintlars stated)- which was originally used for a mechanical fuel pump on some of the previous style M series engines.
