OK, so I should say the ECU doesn't see the engine as rotating so it doesn't turn the pump on.

He said it would run then die, which would jive with the ECU not getting a CPS signal.

The ECU doesn't turn the pump on at cranking speeds. That's why the Circuit Opening Relay has a starting coil. And the engine wouldn't run at all if the CPS was faulty. It wouldn't run and then die....it wouldn't run period because no NE and G signal equals no spark. Not mention he'd have at least one code. And ya know:

....computer controlled cars WILL tell you what is wrong with them...

Not that I agree with that. Not even close ;)

well heres an update. got the new cps in and it fired up right away....ran like a dream, set the timing 12 degrees, and let it idle, about a minute later it starts missing then eventually dies. check codes and I have a code 12. well the tach does jump when i try to turn it over. thats all i have time to check over because i have to go to work. any ideas would be great, oh and i checked the plug...seems to be ok but know i have all of turkey day to figure it out

theres a start, i would set the timing at 10 degrees like its supposed to be until you get it running good...

using the tsrm.....b+ to fp has continuity, b+ to FPR has NO continuity, b+ to PR has no continuity. My multimeter has a function where it buzzes if there is continuity.....so with that said looks like i need a new relay thanks abunch for your help guys, always reliable as usual!

I realize this is a old post. I just noticed a situation that has not been covered. Could help someone down the road..

Digital Multimeter's tend to have a good continuity testing circuit.. However! Most meters will only give you a short indication when the circuit resistance is less than about 50 OHMS.

This is the reason you got a faulty test on +B to FPR pins and got a open circuit indication.. Looking at the schematic of the Fuel pressure relay. You will notice that +B to FP is the switching part of the relay and a very minimal resistance is measured and you will have a short circuit indication by the meter.. Notice +B to FPR has a coil.. Checking the resistance gives me a value of about 70 OHMS.. Hence no short circuit indicator..

Hope this helps out anyone with these same kinds of problems..
