fuel pump hanger problem

Hey guys,

On the weekend I went about dropping my fuel tank do install my new bosch 040 on the standard hanger. All went fairly well until I got the hanger out to fit the new pump to it.

On the top of my 040 I have a 1 way valve for saftey reasons so it sits a little higher than normal. I plan to drill out the standard steel fuel tubing and add a bulkhead fitting to the top of the hanger for my new fuel line. Problem is that there is NOWHERE near enough room to fit the pump, fuel line and the bulkhead inside the tank.

I am really at a loss as to how I am going to make this work. Has anyone fitting a larger intank pump to their standard hanger? I know the walbros are tiny compared to this unit.

As always, help and comments appreciated.

ah!

so run a push on 90 degree fitting from the top of the check valve back downwards towards the bottom of the tank, then let the fuel line loop back up to make room?

what do you think I should do with the standard foot on the hanger that holds the standard filter on? It kind of blocks half of the filter on the bosch.

A 90 will point the hose out to the side then you loop it around to another 90 on the other fitting Andy. (you end up with a horizontal loop of hose with a gentle radius)

I'd cut 90% of the round part at the bottom off keeping a small lip so the pump can't slide too far down when it's clamped to the hanger.

no worries.

I am also thinking of ditching the standard fuel lines and doing it properly...

When removing the tank i had to hack the feed line to the filter as the screw fitting WOULD NOT budge at all. I sprayed it with a nut freezer and all and it wouldnt come off.

ok so here are a couple of the pics of the hanger and me holding the pump up against it.

I can see a possible way out of it as illustrated in the last picture. If I put a 90 degree an fitting on then it almost lines dead up with the standard pipe. What If I used a hacksaw to take the pipe off further up and run a short piece of pipe to join the 2?

would be a waste of the bulkhead and other fittings purchased, but not the end of the world.

suggestions?

Hope this is easier to understand.

pic 1 just need another 90 on the bulkhead fitting that replaces the stock hardline.

pic 2 cut off the bracket at the orange line leaving a lip.

thats a very sharp corner the fuel line has to turn. The stuff i have is quite rigid...

I will see what I can do but I have the general idea.

other than that it looks great! I will just get another 90 degree AN fitting.

This may be a little better picture of what IJ's trying to show you. The loop can extend deeper into the tank than what's shown in the photo, there just wasn't room to draw it on the pic. Though, it looks to me like, if you positioned the fittings correctly, you could do it without any cutting of the bracket, but it's been a long time since I put in my Walbro, and I might not be remembering any obstacles to doing that.

yeah cool, I will measure it up to see what I can do. I was thinking otherwise that I could get one of the 180 degree AN fittings to turn the corner for me, then just run another segment of hose back to the bulkhead fitting.

90's are bad 180's even more so Andy ;)

1x 90 in a line is equal to 10 feet of straight line restriction wise, the 90 sweeps are better than a normal 90 but still not great.

If you had access to better tools/equipment I'd have suggested an Al hardline between the pump and bulkhead fitting but a loop of hose will work.
