I have a 1987 turbo with 100,000 miles, i only put 4,000 of those miles on it since I've had it. The supra was sitting for 10 plus years, the previous owner said he put new fuel injectors, and fuel filter on car. Just recently did head gasket, arp bolts, plugs, wires, timing belt, water pump, seals, belts, 3 inch elbow, 3 inch down pipe, Hks super drager, and stock cat for now.

The problem I'm having with my supra is when I start getting around 1/4 tank of gas it starts sputtering and losing power bad in all gears and then cuts off. Restart the car check codes with supra monitor and no codes are stored but it runs good enough to get home but still horrible. When I get to the gas station put gas in it and she runs perfect as if there's nothing wrong.

I'm thinking the fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter needs to be changed and cleaned.

Anyone have any suggestions on my situation?

Thanks

Fuel tank could deff use a cleaning. Man are they nasty inside. If the filter was replaced, then Id say you were fine with not replacing it. If its the stock pump, replace it. Especially if it sat for 10yrs. I can imagine how nasty that thing is. But Im thinking that there is more to this issue than what meets the eye.

It started doing this before head gasket replacement but also had a backfire which I later found out that my number 5 and 6 spark plug wires had been eaten by something or maybe just old and dry rotted from sitting so long. It still has stock fuel pump so I'm going to buy a new one and have the tank cleaned out and see if this fixes my problem.

Thanks for the reply.

I would clean the tank. My supra sat for three years. I dropped the tank and it was bad. I used clean gas and pea gravel to clean it. Worked like a champ.

Not an introduction... moved to Mk3 general.

Have you drained the fuel tank entirely yet? Or is it possible that there is something floating on the top of your fuel from the 10 year sleep, and it only affects you when the fuel level gets low enough?
