I'm trying to figure out which of the 4 wires is the signal for the fuel level. I have no power in the car, so testing won't work...

4 wires

12v ignintion?
ground
fuel level signal
low level warning light

Colors
Red with blue stripe
Black (ground I assume)
Yellow with blue stripe
White with black stripe

If anyone can put these wires together with their colors that'd be great. Let me know if I'm on the right track. I only need to tap into the one wire for my aftermarket gauge.

Update, I woke up this morning and thought to myself. The Red with blue stripe and the black give me the same result no matter which way I hook em up. The other two wires don't react to any combo of connections so I'm guessing they are the ground and the low level warning light. So to determine which line is the 12 volt supply to the sender I temp wired up my harness and turned the key on. No power to the chassis end of the plug. Am I missing something somewhere? Should there be power going to that plug?

Take a look at the wireing

Sender side
White, black stripe ground.
Black in or out with the senders reading
Red, blue stripe in or out with sender reading.
yellow, blue stripe i assume is the low level warning.

With the key in the on position, I should have power to the sender correct?

Using a test light connected to the positve terminal on the battery, I plugged the sender harness in, and poked through the black and then the red with blue stripe. It lights up for the black, the red with blue is dim then gets brighter as I move the sender up and down. This tells me that this is the signal going out to the gauge. Does this make sense?

This is my think out loud thread, it really helps to just type this out... Hopefully someone with more electrical experiance can chime in :icon_bigg

Found this while searching, thought I would post a link & info for future users:

This is from a 1989 shop manual available online, so wiring colors are a little different from what you described. They are the same on my '88 as in the online info above.

Blue-Red stripe: From sender to dash gauge
Brown: From sender to ground (ultimately grounds by emergency brake on center tunnel)

Lt. Green: Low fuel lamp sender to dash lamp
White-Black stripe: Low fuel lamp to ground (grounds in center rear panel under hatch lock)
