I did a 7mgte swap, all harnesses are from a 88 turbo car and so is gauge cluster. All plugs are connected to the gauge cluster and connectors to the sending unit are also plugged. Fuel gauge still wont read. and yes there is gas in the tank. Already tryd a spare sending unit in the tank and still doesnt read.
Any ideas what it could be?

Subscribed, because I'm having a similar problem. 1989 NA with non-operable fuel gauge. Gauge works fine with voltage applied directly to terminals. Brand new sending unit. Low fuel light works, but gauge won't work in car. :(

Please post if you find a soultion.

Oh, yeah. I dropped the tank for cleaning, pump and sending unit replacement (gauge was not working when I got the car). Put 2 gallons in: low level light comes on. Put in another 3 gallons: low level light goes out, but nada on gauge. Put in another 5 gallons, no change. This is my race car build, so gauge is not critical, but it would be nice to have.

I have a smililar issue...looking for ideas/fix. I have an 87T. I have changed the sending unit...brand new from Toyota. The fuel gauge goes up...but not all the way to full...and drops down to E within 100 miles. The car is completely stock save exhaust and intake.

full up your tank then start tinkering with things that way you know when its working the gauge will be on Full. My problem was park of my face gauges was holding the back of the needle from going up....super weird and never seen that before lol. gauge was still very close to Empty so to make sure it was just that i went to fill her up and needle went sky high :)
