Fuel economy?

Hi. I'm considering the purchase of a 1989 Supra turbo. That's the 7MGTE isn't it? I don't know much Toyota info. Anyway, I was wondering if someone with the same motor could tell me what kind of highway fuel economy you're getting. Preferrably stock setups. I have to fly 1000 miles to buy it then drive it back, so I'm trying to calculate a total trip cost to weigh against shipping it.

22-24 mpg on turbo IF you lay of the boosting. Considerably less than that if you have a heavy foot.

Go with 23mpg in your calculations and you should be good.

Cool, thanks guys. I had figured worst case would prolly be 20mpg so I figure at worst I gotta pay $160 or so to drive it home. Well.. $180 airfare to get there, $160 fuel, $90 hotel stay on the way, $100 food/expenses so $530 to get it home versus $880 shipping. Prolly just drive it home.

add an extra $20 for an oil + filter change before you hit the road though.
quickly check underneath when they're doing it, and look for leaks and things like that
1000 MILES is quite a trip
