Is the fuel door supposed to have some sort of spacer on the back side of it, where it bolts to the body?

I ask because I've now seen the 6th MKIII Supra that has the fuel door scraping along when you open it.

2 tiny flat washers later, and it's centered nicely and no longer scrapes - works like new again!

I just kinda bent mine a little bit... now it sits perfectly aligned and no longer scrapes... seems like after 18 years of opening and closing it got a little bent outta shape.

worked great :) no more scraping fuel door for me! And it's aligned a lot better, I noticed part of it went in further and wasn't aligned with the body, I bent it to correct that and found that it no longer scraped as well!

I chose to bend it rather than re-align it because I could tell it had never been tampered with and somebody probably just rested on it whil fueling or broke their fall with it so I decided to bend it back.. worked out perfect.

Mine kind of sits 1/2" deeper than the body, and the lever doesn't pop it open really, i gotta pop it out with a key usually after i pull the lever.

what most likely has happened is that at some point over the years the fuel door was shall we say over zealously opened thus bending the hinge a bit and putting the whole thing out of whack. I have had both symptoms of this, scraping metal and having to ask strangers at gas stations to open my gas door while I am pulling the door lever. :nono: of course it was the previous owners fault:icon_razz

Damn... For all you guys with the scrape going on, just unbolt the fuel door, use one hand to hold both bolts in place, and turn it over - put a thin flat washer between the door and the body, and presto - instant total win.

My door opens completely, with no scraping, total ease, and pops perfectly!

The first night I had my car I went to fill up and couldnt get it open, luckily a friend was with me.
After that I learned my cell phone was perfect size to shove under the lever while i open the fuel door.

HAHA...this is hilarious. I've done they old "hey, can you help me real quick" at the gas station before. I used to shove a rag under the lever and cary a screw driver in the center console. I eventually got it to work (shaved a little material off the little black nub that goes in and out). It's still a b**** sometimes.
