i search the forum and found some topics on this but my question wasn't answered and that thread was too old to reply to.

i read the suggestion where someone said to remove the door sill trim and pull the carpet back and pull the cable, so i tried to do this because nothing else was working to get the thing to open, i think the cable is just way too far stretched out by now. with some persuasion i got the carpet up enough to somewhat access the cables, but i can't seem to get in there to dissconect the cable from the lever with the seat where it is. so my question is, is there some trick to get the cable off of the lever, or should i just go ahead and pull the driver's seat to get some more space to work in? also is there any way to pry the thing open without destroying anything if all else fails?

i read something about someone replacing the release with a solenoid, that seems like something i might want to do because i want to do away with this cable setup. does anyone or the o.p have info on how they did that?

i tried reaching my hand in the access panel all that did was break the plastic i couldnt fit my hand in there. i have the front seat out of my car as im typing this what a PITA this was and its gonna be ieven harder when i get the new cable to replace it with. for now im leaving the cable off of the lever and tying it to the floor and leaving it sticking out of the carpet so i can pull it by hand every time.

Replace the old technology cable pull with a nice solenoid and pushbutton and save yourself a LOT of hassle in the long-run.

Step 1: Get a solenoid - you can find these online many places - you do not need a big one
Step 2: Tear apart interior - this will make it easier
Step 3: Remove existing cable from fuel door release lever
Step 4: Mount solenoid in close proximity to fuel door release lever - you may have to experiment a bit to find the perfect place but once you have the interior ripped apart the average person with half a brain should be able to figure this out (hint: I cut off the wire wrap from the end of the existing cable pull and ran the cable for the solenoid through this to the lever)
Step 5: Attach new cable to the lever
Step 6: Wire a simple pushbutton to the front of the car - mine is in the ashtray area
Step 7: Give this button a 12V+ and a ground
Step 8: Test and tweak

It really is simple.
