Doesn't sound like either from what you've just said... It's not uncommon for turbo's the spike, then fall back down to a lower level. You're using a manual boost controller for this I assume?

You'll know when you've got fuel cut, you'll think the car just shit itself when it starts bucking violently.

I'd say the boost falling off is due to the MBC.

On 5 speeds I'm sure it is different, but I have a 90 turbo auto and I use an HKS MBC and I leave it around 10, if it cools off drastically it will hit boost cut/fuel cut whatever, it'll buck hard and the check engine light will go on then off as soon as u either let off or its dropped rpm's. It's cool as hell though cuz when it kicks back itll break loose till it hits again. LOL.
