Ok, i'm not sure what to call this...speeding....streetrace...whatever, but two of my friends (well...one is almost more of an aquaintance, but aside the point) were speeding, kinda racing but not quite....and one car ended up cutting the other one off. i dont feel like elaborating details, especially since i didnt see it.

getting to the point, there were 8 teenagers total in the two cars, 4 in each, and the car that was cut off didnt make it outta this scenario, the driver, my friend, swerved hard to avoid the other car, apparently forgetting how fast he was going (90ish)....lost control and ended up flipping his car about 3-4 times in the grassy median after sliding sideways at around the speed they were going when they left the road. the car didnt have a chance, it dug in and flipped.

- one girl, a good friend, is beat up, she's home now

- another girl, a good friend (and ex-girlfriend), has broken ribs, she's in the hospital still

- the male passenger, a good friend, has a broken neck, obviously still in the hospital...thankfully he's not paralyzed

- the male driver, a friend, has some scratches..nothing serious. he's home.

they were all wearing seatbelts.

i just want to throw this out there because for one, i'm pissed that this stupid mistake could have killed them all; two, one of my great friends will be in a neck brace for 3 months; three, another friend hopefully doesnt have internal complications from her broken chest; four, its a good real-time reminder of the dangers; five...they could use some prayer right now.

i know its been said before but i'll say it again....streetracing and speeding is bad. this wasn't even above 100mph and they still got fucked. I hear about people pushing that speed frequently and its sad. dont do it. please.

Hopefully this will give somone out there in cyberspace one more tidbit of memory toward not speeding...there are racetracks for it...its why we have them...

Lastly, i'd really appriciate it if anyone who is up for it would pray for them, namely the girl with broken ribs and the boy with a broken neck. As far as i know they aren't in critical condition, but i still worry and they mean so much to me and many others, and anything will help. thanks everybody.

Thinking? I don't think that enters into the equation.

Look on the positive side though - they will likely learn from the experience, and it wasn't bad enough that you need to book time off work for a funeral.

Sorry to hear about your friends. I know we have been over and over this on here alot. We can all try to keep our friends from this. I know there is a drag strip within a short drive from almost all of us. Its worth the 20.00 entry fee to race on a track and keep us all safe.

Read some current research where they determined that younger people do actually think about it but that there risk assessment is not fully developed. There is a portion of the brain that does risk analyses and its not fully mature until guess what about 25 years http://www.bridges4kids.org/articles/2-05/Post2-1-05.html.

Please. Like you do the speed limit on the freeway. "Speeding is bad" my ass.

And EVERYONE street races. Even the goddamn soccer moms in their suburban assault vehicles if you're at a red light on a street that goes from two lanes into one.

I street race. In fact, I fucking love street racing. Will I stop? No.
Will I do it on a road while there are oncoming cars or other traffic? No.
There's a smart way to do it (and I'm sure a good few of you will think that oxymoronic), which is why I go months if not years between a race because I'm not going to put bystanders/passengers at risk.

Fuck street racing? No.
Fuck stupid people who can't drive and can't handle any amount of speed and don't know the physics of their car.
And fuck those people who think they're the speed police who like to cut people off and stomp on the brakes (and believe me, I've been witness to that, too).

There are those who are just like everyone else at 16... showing off, playing around, and alot more confident in their skills and ability, than what their real, true-world, experience has provided.

I saw another story on the news the other nite... kids, in a 350Z. Dunno the real details, but the end result was a dead teenage driver and his best friend, who he'd grown up with for the last ~17 years.

Regardless of the type of car and what they are doing, young drivers' likelihood/chances of being involved in fatal accidents, increase with the number of occupants in the vehicle.

This particular story was focusing on kids being on cellphones, texting, and all -around goofing off... most while not wearing their seatbelts.

It's not even a matter of streetracing... some ppl are just tempted to run whomever pulls up at the light (spontaneous). Organized (illegal) streetracing is still dangerous, but I think most would agree that ppl go there with the INTENT to speed/drive this way (deliberately).

I seriously do hope that they all realize how close they were to being another statistic... Hopefully they do apply what they've learned. I wish 'em well.

As bad as I feel over your friends' injuries, I do have to side with DT on this one. Especially the stupid@$$ soccermom vans that gun it at the light to get in front of you because it goes into one lane. :nono:

Everyone has road rage to an extent (for one reason or another).
Not everyone realizes the physics of a vehicle at high speeds nor the ability to make something real nasty with just the slightest move.

They do have my prayers...however, the stupidity still stands strong and I hope they've learned something from it.

theres a difference between controlled situationed street racing...and being plain stupid. that was being stupid by the upmost intensity.

They are in my prayers and I do hope they have a speedy recovery...but I also hope they learned their lesson in the matter.

Yea it doesn't matter if they were going under 100mph. I took a class at the local police station where they showed pictures of car crashes that occured at 75mph (only 10 over the speed limit) and those cars were f-ed up. I was pulled over for doing 94 in a 65 and it really put it in perspective for me as to how bad of a crash I could have gotten in to.

There was another picture of a guy that was racing in his Vette and hit an embankment at 90mph and the seatbelt just ripped through his body. The seatbelt seriously cut his body into 3 pieces at 90mph.

I still drive fast and street race but there is a smart way and a dumb way to do it.

Which is why I encourage EVERYONE to get thy ass to a road course and tear it up so you know better how your car behaves at high speeds and turns.

I love to street race, and I've posted a few kills on this forum and got flamed for it, but that doesn't deter me. I will not however race agianst kids that look sixteen or seventeen. I only have control over my car, and I won't race someone that hasn't had time to learn to drive their car at high speeds. I will continue to race until it's no longer fun or until I'm a statistic, but I choose who I race and where and when I race. I don't race every idiot in a GT that pulls up beside me.

That always kills me, especially on the ImportAtlanta forum, which I think can die in a large fire.

They have a kills section, but then everyone who mentions street racing gets their ass torn up. 90% of the people on the site say "zOMG, STREET RACING IS BAD!!" but 98% of the people on the site street race. Nothing I hate more than hypocrites.

That's preposterous. Why would anyone NOT want to see titties?

(well, okay. I'd rather see no titties than floppy pancake titties, but let's not get into details)

i race when my supra runs. it's a matter of knowing your car in and out. i learned to control my car my car on a huge skid pad. i've been in some scary situations but that doesn't detour me from racing/drifting/speeding, it teaches me not to make that mistake again.

i'm not religious, but my condolences to you and your friends. they were stupid, but no one should have to go through that.
