Buying one and swapping in a 2jz. I win.

We all know you can achieve a lot with the 2JZ, but is not the right motor for any application... If you wanna go fast going straight, just set yourself up a nice drag car!

Putting a 2J in this car would be a step backwards from the direction it was intended to take...

I hate to be the one that says this, but if it weighs less than 3200lbs, I will be shocked. Its hardtop, about the size of a MX-5 and seats 2 more passengers.

That said, if it had 300hp from a 2.5l turbo boxer, I would be all over it!

So you're saying a car that is DESIGNED to be light, the size of a MR2, would weight the same as a brand new 4-door Camry with options? :aigo:

Read my previous posts, this car will weight just over 2600lbs! Absolutely no more than 2800lbs.. and believe me, even at 2800 with 220-250hp, it would be a delight.

There's also a possible turbo version!

Toyota FT-86 Nissan 370Z Miata
Length 163.78" 167.2" 157.3"
Wheelbase 101.18" 100.4" 91.7"
Width 69.29 72.8" 67.7"

370z Miata
Weight 3,232 2,410

Remember, both cars are 2 seaters, and the FT is supposed to be a 2+2. More people = more safety equipment = more weight.

Its a tad bit closer to a 370z in size than the MRS.
I am going to have to call it coming in at 3250lbs.

I've always wondered why Subaru never made a front engined rear trans-axled 2 wheel drive sports car. When GM owned a lions share of Subie they had plenty of opportunities to build an entry level sports car with borrowed Corvette parts. Add a modified STI engine or a large bore flat six in a cheap steel body and they could have had a $30k dollar giant slayer. Boxer fours might not sound very cool, but with a rear trans-axle one could be mounted so far back in the engine bay that the radiator condenser and a front mount intercooler would fit in line with the front wheels.

When I first read about the FT-86 I thought it reminded me a lot of my idea. I guess that why Toyota is Toyota and GM is a failure.

Don't let that fool you! The Z is a heavy car by design. It was designed to be heavy like the MK3 because its chassis was gonna be shared with other cars in the Nissan lineup. Also add power seats, leather all kinds of options and there you have it.

The FT-86 concept will be DESIGNED for light weight. It would be smaller than a Corolla. The highest trim corolla is 2900+ lbs, the miata is 2400+ lbs. This will be right around the middle.
