frozen wastegate actuator

So my recently aquired supra has alot of isses and i am doing my best to fix it all myself, i am trying to figure out why my car refuses to push above 2.5-3.5 lbs of boost. I was checking the wastegate actuator today and it does appear to be stuck. I am unable to move the actuator bar by hand with a slight tug. as all moving parts wear you can see where the regular range of motion of the bar would be. it appears to be sticking out, if i am not mistaken, out is opening the waste gate, does this sound stuck? Would that be why my boost never climbs above 3.5lbs? never below 2.5? Should i be able to move the bar by hand? also can this cause a sputter from mid to low rps that goes away at wot?
any help would be great thanks.

I wastegate spring is pretty stout and I'm not to sure that it would get stuck open like you discribe. I could be wrong though.

Anyway, if you're running the stock bpv, remove it and try blowing through it. If you can blow through both sides, then it aiding in your boost deficiency.

I have, i purchased a new bov and adjusted it and the car runs the exact same. Same boost #'s and same exact sputter. also replaced all vac lines and looked for boost leak and found none.

Well that answered my next question lol. Of course you'd likely be hitting fuel cut with a boost leak..

If I could find my camera i'd show you where the wastegate arm on the bottom of the turbo (the swinging flap) is supposed to be when closed... You also might be able to see the wastegate door through the O2 sensor hole, but I can't really remember how a stock DP looks.

so it should be closed completely when the car is not running correct?
If so i can pull the elbow to look in there and see where its at

It should be closed anytime boost is below the wastegate's spring pressure (off, idle, not spooled yet). And yes, you can pull the elbow to inspect the flapper valve, but don't just force it closed if it is open. You have to make it move freely or you'll have uncontrolled boost pressures. Good luck!

Thats what i thought. Ill look in the for sale area for an oem one for sale or anyone feel free to pm me with a price for one shipped to 87121 thanks. preferred stock spring and needs to be in good working order.

Another issue to consider is your exhaust. If you have any blockage, it'll reduce the amount of boost you can produce.
