so i finally have my car ready to run. It cranks over with the starter, but doesn't start. I get a couple putts every now and then like it wants to fire up. I pulled the first spark plug out to see if im getting spark and i am. Its a fresh rebuilt motor so maybe itll take a while to start? but i dont wanna keep cranking it over. what do you guys think?

Assuming you're getting fuel and spark, there's no reason it shouldn't fire up like it's been running for years. First thing I'd do is check the timing, make sure you're match marks on the cam gears line up straight when the crank is showing TDC on the timing case (confirm with a chopstick in the spark plug hole too if you want). Check and make sure that your CPS is in the right spot, it's very easy to get that thing off by a tooth. Check and make sure all necessary vacuum lines are hooked up and in to the right ports. The only thing you risk frying from cranking is really the starter, and as long as you're keeping it to 30 second intervals, it should be fine :).

I love saying this like it's my turrete's:

It's the CPS! It's off one tooth!
: )
I know it could be other things, but this is the most common problem in my experience with a new no-start.
