Found My Dream Car, Want To Know If It's Worth Selling The Supra For It

As some of you may know, I have a 88 Supra that's in pretty clean condition. I'm wondering though if I should sell it to buy a SC300 that I've found for $3,300. The SC300 has 200k Miles on it and I know that's high. My Supra only has about 90k Miles.

I've always wanted a SC300 but I can never find them for that cheap. However if it broke down I wouldn't have the money at the moment to fix it. Do you guys think I would ever be able to find another one for that cheap. Is it even worth selling my Supra over?

On top of all that I've kinda grown attached to my Supra more then I thought, so it would really suck to sell it. So what do you guys think?

As long as you won't be too financially fucked do whatever your heart desires.

Thats the only reason I'm driving the supra instead of my old Honda. :)

Is the Supra practical? Maybe, probably not.

Is it worth it? HELL YES.

If the SC is what the supra is to me, do it. :)

None of us would be driving Supras if we didn't follow our hearts, so if that's your dream car - consider it.

Do yourself a favor though - remember that you get what you pay for. There will always be SC300's to buy - cheap ones, expensive ones, etc. Don't get blinded because you want an SC300 - your dream could be crushed if you end up with a car you can't afford to make how you want it.

Bottom line, it's OK to be emotional about a car - but be absolutely sure you do your best to inspect it and know what you are buying.

I personally like the SC model, a friend of mine has shop in town and has a few of them pumping out 400-600 at the rear wheels. Impressive when tuned properly. One with 200K is only going to lead to problems if you ask me.

Yea I think I'm gonna put it off for now. I've just never seen one that cheap yet. I think you're right about the engine giving me problems since it's got 200k miles on it.

I've always planned on getting the SC300 but yea I think I can get a better deal then that, or probably something that costs a little more, but with less problems. When I do get one though, I wanna get the SC400 black leather interior and put it in the SC300. Colors on the SC300 I was looking at didn't really appeal to me either. Green with the tan interior...

Thanks for the advice though guys. I think it'd be a smarter idea to get one after the winter, mostly cos of money and not wanting to work on it in this winter weather.

I've purchased no fewer than five SC's for less than 3k in the past six or seven months, they are definitely out there if you're willing to settle for a 92-93

Mileage is not a real concern with SC's, the only real issues are bleeding climate control displays, dead gauge needles, bad LCA bushings and ball joints and rack bushings that get trashed from power steering leaks. I've seen all of those same issues on SC's with 90k miles and 250k miles.

Your supra is a much rarer car with the mileage it has. Hold on to it and get an SC later down the road.

Wow I didn't know there was that many SC300's out there. I think I'll just keep on looking and hopefully find one down the road. I'm glad Zach mentioned those problems with the SC's. I'll keep those things in mind when I'm looking for one. On top of that I'm totally willing to settle for a 92-93. I know the 97 grill is interchangeable with the 92-93 so I planned on taking out the old grill and putting in the 97 grill cos that's when they re-designed it to breathe better.

I'm glad you guys gave me a heads up about how many SC's are out there and at much better deals

The supra was my dream car, WELL at least i thought. Remember that sweet old movie mad max?

I saw it when i was younger and the body style kinda stuck with me, and he would turn on the supercharger and it would sound like a turbo winding up.
I totally thought it was one until i went found out it wasn't....:[....But i found mine sitting in an old ladies yard and it was there for me. so i bought it broken or not. and it has been a great car.

Here's the mad max car....
