My brother told me to replace my carrier bearing with a Ford ranger one but don't know what year to get it from.. He said all that has to be done is drill out the rivets in the old casing and then get bolts and nuts and bolt it back together with the ranger bearing in it.. Anyone else done this?

Thanks

Why not replace it with a Supra carrier bearing? Can't be all that much more expensive, and it'll save you work. Not to mention, I would be willing to bet that the Supra bearing will be a bit stronger...

Makes sense, IF it works. For that price you might as well get a custom driveshaft made up or get one of the pre-made aluminum/steel types.

Looks sort of the same but is the od of the ranger driveshaft the same as the supra where it mounts? Dont think they were meant to take apart either.

Can get the toyota one for 180 if you call the right dealers. and it will last.

My brother did the ford ranger one on his DS about 6 years ago and used it for 3-4 years and now its going on another car.. Its the same size and everything you just have to swap it into the supra's case and bolt it back together.. Ill go down to the shop and get some pics and see if there is a part number on it

I'm going to need to do this soon and don't agree with Toyota's price (I've never really complained before, but on this.. well).

updates plz im in same boat. orileys wants 145 for the supra bearing and id still have to split my bearing case to make it fit on my supra. not worth the hacking if i can get a ranger and the I.D on the 90s rangers is 1.181...same as supra bearing I.D so its worth a shot

It works, I just made a thread detailing what you need to do, it's very easy and only cost me $50 total. Could have shopped around on the bearing and done it for less.

The bearing I used was for a 92 Ranger 3.0L.
