I recently picked up the same Duralast filter as I was not sure when it was last changed. There was a real gasket present when I removed the old filter, so at least I know it wasn't the original one!

But now I have an ATF leak from one corner of the pan : (

I followed the TSRM and torqued all 19 bolts to the 65 inch pounds in three passes and then a final pass after waiting a couple hours for the gasket to compress. I did notice that the instructions that came with the filter recommended going up to 120 inch pounds. Now I wonder if I should have done that, since the TSRM instructions were written for using FIPG as the gasket...

Does anyone have any advice on the proper torque to use?

I would use what the car came from the factory with.. FIPG. Go to your dealer and get some and be done. BTW Since you have used a gasket you need to check for deformation around bolt holes. Lay on a flat surface and use 1'2 drive extension and hammer to tap flat. IMO Good luck.

Thanks for the info super51fan, will sort out the pan as you recommended when I use the FIPG.

I noticed that even Toyota sells a pan gasket, so I had wondered if this was the preferred method of sealling things now. And to be honest, not having to deal with FIPG under the car was very appealling. At least the FIPG goes on the pan rather than the transmission : )
