every now and then I like to go visit my block at the machine shop, somethimes I bring it a care package, like a nice box of pistons or rods or something...

Well, today I go by and she's sitting there, looking pretty... All that nasty oil and grime is gone... She has a little surface rust on the outside, but that's ok, daddy's gunna clean her up nice and give her a fresh paint job...

ANYWAY! On to the point... Assembly is about to take place, Im letting them assemble my bottom end, because I dont have the proper tools and for an 800hp motor, I'd rather have a crew that's built alot high hp motors, including forced induction motors, they know the proper tolerances and torque specs... The only thing I need are the bearings, and one of the bearings he pointed out was the oil pump driveshaft bearings...

Do you guys replace those? Because as many build threads as I've been through, I dont recall anyone saying anything about getting new oil pump drive shaft bearings... I asked him if he thought I should, and he said yes, because when you vat the block, it degrades the alluminum in the bearings... Not a big deal, the're like $20... So Yes, Im replacing mine... But just wondering if you guys have or knew you should...

Discuss... I'll be back later, Im runnin off to the store to buy some purple paint! whoooo hooooooooooooooo!

Letting an expert do something is a sign of maturity. +1

Stretch, I was lookin in there wondering how the hell you get them out! lol...

Nick: thanks man...

Hey, guys, I was just thinking: are the freeze plugs suppose to be replaced? Or can they be reused/left in place? *once again, replacing them, but just thought I'd throw that out there*:biglaugh:

Yeah replace them...use Toyota though...I used Dorman plugs and discovered they are very slightly under size. Blew the front drivers side one...it's not pretty.

I sure hope they dont have a sale on orange paint. We don't want to see the same thing as last time happen again. only you jake.

and yes of course you should always replace anything like that while the motor is open. I would even put a new oil pump in there. (maybe you have)

Jake, make sure they fit the driveshaft to the bearings before they insert them into the block, I've had three sets not fit the shaft, but fit the block...

Also, OEM's fit perfect and are $27 from champion...
We went with ACL last time with no probs, Oil holes only need to be alligned to allow a 0.030" orifice. Wide open is robbong a good deal of oil from the #1 main.

When they did my oil driveshaft bearings the pump wouldn't spin freely at all! So I had them polish the pump until it spun freely ahahaa. Took 3 trips back and forth to the shop :icon_razz
