Finally deciding to make up a thread for my project car that I got a few years ago. Starting the summer of 2019 i had just acquired some HKS old school goodies, the EVC4, VPC, GCC, and later the P-FCON and full HKS intercooler kit. However, I haven't had a MK3 Supra since October of 2016, so it was more just collecting and also got them for a decent price in case I did ever got a future build..
20191024_231928.jpg20200304_203017.jpg20200205_223028.jpg
Then in May 2020, was looking around on FB and happened to come across a 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo Manual Shell for a total of $400. At this point in time, shells where usually around $1000 to $1500 at least, and this one was in decent shape and complete inside too.20200528_103542.jpg
So then it began, the forever project, or at least what it's been feeling like . Anyways, I found it without the engine, tranny, and harness, but everything else was there so that helped a bunch and inside it was pretty clean (usual wear and tear but is a solid 8/10). Outside it needed a little bit of love, had a dent on the quarter panel, and dings and dents throughout, with the front fenders both being rolled bc the PO had bigger wheels, though it wasn't done that well so they started to repair the driver side fender. But overall it was a very solid base to start with and it didn't have any major rust issues too, just a small amount of surface rust in the rear floor and spare wheel but which mk3 supra doesn't at this point...20200602_145703.jpg20200602_145722.jpg20200602_145735.jpg
Also, the PO deleted the stock spoiler, which I still have, and at one point it had JDM cherries installed in the rear (still have the pre89 tail lights, and yes the center and outer lights are all darker and don't look to be tinted)...
So it all began with tearing apart the engine I had gotten from another local person, which ended up being bad sadly... It actually took me about 6 blocks before I found one that wasn't cracked on the deck and about 4 or 5 heads before I found a good one. The one I finally found was from a 90 from a friend up north in the Seattle area. Which if rumors are to be believed, the later blocks are actually better than the pre89 blocks due to having a few more ribs and material. Anyways, tore it all apart and this one was ugly on the inside (had rod knock) but the head and block didn't have any cracks, so ended up getting a Titan 2.0mm MLS HG, ARP Undercut studs (because the normal style were out of stock and another local person was generous enough to get them for me without even asking so that was dope), ARP rod bolts, and ended up getting some NPR .30over Pistons (didn't have the money for forged pistons and needed at least .20over but none were in stock from NPR, wasn't gonna go with DNJ so NPRs it was).
In the mean time between looking for engines and tearing them down I had acquired a TTR wheel, the ARC 7M-G badge and custom radiator top brackets to represent the PNW.20200814_215853.jpg

Finally, got the engine back from the machine shop and then it became a race against the clock. You see at this time I was in the midst of planning my wedding, so I wanted to get it done and on the road to be able to leave in the car, spoiler alert, that didn't happen and I've missed every deadline I've ever set for it basically hahaha. Anyways, time to put everything back onto the engine...20210131_142155.jpg20210220_194816.jpg
This was my first rebuild that I did myself (though I did have a ton of help from friends at times), so ran into a number of issues such as warped oil pans, breaking a couple bolts/studs, but eventually got the head and block all put together.
Also, if anyone needs their CPS rebuilt, I highly suggest going through @Piratetip I sent mine out to him, and it came back fantastic and I've never had an issue with it.20210317_173242.jpg
Yes, this is how your CPS should look like when it's installed on the car correctly (engine fully at TDC, the cps is aligned per the tsrm, and if you have your valve covers off it helps a lot more so you can see the gears moving and can re-adjust for that so it's actually in correctly and not off by a tooth; I found that out the hard way on my last supra).

After getting the CPS installed, I installed my Bosch 550cc High Z injectors and ran into another issue of them not fitting properly. I actually had to pop the bottom black o-ring because it wouldn't fit/seal right with it there, so popped it and everything fit like how it's supposed to with the adapters from DM.20210508_190616.jpg
Eventually though, got the rest of the top accessories on, as well as powder coating the intercooler kit, valve covers, exhaust manifold and a couple other things too.20210427_171120.jpg20210520_210746.jpg
As I was putting everything together, I actually found a really clean and complete 7MGTE pre89 harness, so once I received that, took off all the old crappy wrapping and rewrapped it. Nearly all of the connectors were still in good shape, only the ISCV and later on would find one of the ECU connectors were broken (though the ISCV actually still hooks up, only was an edge piece, the ecu connector had the tab that holds it in place was broken).20210522_125206.jpg
Overall though it was in great shape and I think the rewrap came out great too so I was happy with it.

After installing the harness to the engine, I installed the hks intercooler to the car, which at the time there was a thread on here that had the manual to it, but this site went down again and it's been since lost sadly... But here's some pics in case yourself has this kit...20210624_200742.jpg20210624_200836.jpg20210622_210852.jpg20210624_200844.jpg20210624_201231.jpg
And yes, I did get new HKS couplers for this too even though I have the old orange ones that came with it originally. Anyways, after this was installing the differential, and soon after the engine itself. By this point its June and the wedding was about a month and a half away so it definitely wasn't gonna make it, but I tried anyways haha20210717_201510.jpg20210922_181147.jpgAfter figuring out some of the wiring and changing up connectors at the tranny because I actually ended up getting a W58 (installed an XTD stage 3 6 puck clutch too), and installed the J2 Radiator, it started to look real pretty in this engine bay.

After having gotten the engine, radiator and intercooler installed, next up was the oil cooler that I had gotten (a rev9 19 row full relocation kit with a permacool thermostat). This proved to be an issue for sure, reason for that was because the hks intercooler took up a bunch of room from where the stock intercooler was so I couldn't put it where the stock oil cooler was. I also didn't want to install it in the fender area in case something hit it, nor did I want to put it infront of the intercooler too for the same deal. So eventually I came to installing it between the IC and the A/C condenser since I wanted to keep A/C in this thing. Once my very good friend made up some brackets for it, we installed everything and for the most part nothing leaked.... Except for the filter mount (which i mounted on the other side of the washer bottle)... Eventually, actually didn't change it for a long time since it wasn't getting driven yet, I got the Driftmotion mount and haven't had an issue since... 20230118_204939.jpg
One thing that I also ran into with this was having an issue with the elbows from the block hitting the coupler from the compressor of the turbo, so I ended up getting 90° fittings and it just barely fits but it doesn't rub once everything is installed so that's good.20211106_180436.jpg

After installing the oil cooler (which you wanna make sure the lines are hooked up right because if not you will not get oil pressure) was doing the 12V mod for the Walbro 255lph fuel pump that I had gotten for this, which after watching a couple YouTube videos, it wasn't too bad, just make sure that you have the wires hooked up right on the relay.20220317_203536.jpg

After doing the 12V mod, all of the hks electronics goodies and gauges were installed and in doing this, I tried to make sure I had it looking as clean in the engine bay and interior as possible. 20220312_173642.jpg20220312_172756.jpg
I wish there was still a mount for the pfc f-con so it's just chilling in the glove box with the FCD...

After the harness and everything was done, finally ready for start up. And within a few tries, she was up an running (and running pretty decent for the most part). However she was idling high, which ended up the ISCV being stuck so replaced that, as well as the TPS because it wasn't the correct style for the throttle body that I had and she has been running ever since. It even made it to our regional event, PacNW Supra National's (though not on its own power sadly)20220626_094051.jpg20220626_145535.jpg

Since then, the power steering went out, which is a huge bummer. Tried a two pumps and bleeding the system a bunch of times, yet nothing, so eventually I gotta get the rack rebuilt and probably the pump too. In putting things back together, I also broke off the IAT for the HKS VPC, so I had to get a new one and HKS doesn't make the M6 style anymore, only the M8 so ended up having to drill a new hole into the HKS 3000 cross pipe for the new sensor, so that was annoying. Also at this time I had a slight coolant leak coming from the thermostat housing and the 90deg hose that's below that, so ended up having to get new upper and 90deg hoses from toyota (the silicone hoses were leaking so went OEM instead). After those issues, it's just been breaking it in slowly and figuring out the tune for it to not be lean in boost. Hopefully I can figure out the system soon enough so I'm not lean at WOT or in boost, and eventually enjoy the car.
Now you may be wondering why this thread is titled the way it is... Well back in 2020 right before everything shut down, one of my best friends had passed away after a night of me and him cruising around the freeways and after he dropped me off at home, he didn't make it... Now originally this project wasn't about that, but then after seeing a reel on IG of a person finishing up their project car, then showing their buddy who had passed on at the grave site and cracking a cold one, that was when this turned into more of a memorial build. During that last ride we talked about many things, one of which was me potentially getting another supra (was a totally different one at the time) but he was always interested in my old one and wanted me to get another. So after seeing that reel, this has been for my homie Ben. I ain't ever giving up on this new build and whenever I get upset or mad about something going wrong, I am always reminded as to why I'm doing all this. Anyways, I hope yall enjoy seeing this newish project. There's definitely been a lot of ups and downs, but it's now at the point of just getting used to it and making it into the fun cruiser that I know it can be :). Also a big thanks to everyone who has been helping me with this build too, because without the hundreds (and I mean hundreds) of questions, it wouldn't be where it's currently at.

Hello. I also have a hks VPC, but a chip for 1G engine.I bought a 7m rom on ebay but it didn't work. And then I bought a 7m rom from Gordon in Texas. Unfortunately it didn't work either. Do you have a rom chip in hks vpc for 7mgte?
Does it work properly for you?

In my fcon and vpc I have the roms for the 7mgte with the 550s and for the fcon to work with the vpc, think it's E105V and SUP009B if I recall. If you're on a 1G then the roms might be a bit different. There use to be a website called 1JZMERC that had the info on the different roms, but that site has been down for a while now sadly. It had all the instructions for these too. Gordon should know the roms for a 1G though, he's where I got the one for the VPC and I also got the E164 rom too from him

I live in a sanctioned country. Now I can't pay Gordon or buy anything from him. Paypal and mastercard are gone. I can only communicate on the Internet.:)

Yeah I haven't seen the VK001B rom before, should be SUP011N. That could be the issue. It should be based on which engine you have and injector size, so not sure what the VK is for...

Can you read your chip rom and send it to me for comparison with my chips? In beat or hex files format.
