I'm curious. I'm wanting to do the 1JZ deal in my 86.5. What differences will there be in putting in my 86.5 versus the other models. Plus i'm wanting to eliminate the stock 1JZ ECU and use a stand-alone (considering F-Con V Pro from HKS). I'm hoping to use all digital autometer gauges in cobalt blue digit neons (including speedo, fuel, rpm, etc). But if I do this gauge thing, what can i do about all the other stuff that shows up in the little square (engine light, etc, etc)? Anyone with a solution? I also want to be able to hook my lappy up to the standalone and possibly edit a few timing setting and air intake amount fuel intake amount, stuff like that, and also get readings on anything basically. thanks for the help, this is the only thing left i was worried about when changing over to the 1JZ.

The FconV pro doesn't get rid of the stock ECU. The Power FC is the only Japanese standalone that removes the stock ECU. It works like the stock ECU in every way.

You can use an AEM for a 2jz and a jumper harness, or use a 2jzgte harness.

Look into a stinger its a pretty simple standalone to work with, i will be running it. I did the swap in my 86.5 there's an abundance of info on this forum check out the stickys if you need any help let me know. The majority of the hassle is in the wiring but even that isn't bad at all, but all the diagrams and pin outs are available.

Okay I looked up the Apex'i Power FC and it did not list that it works for the 1JZ. For what I'm wanting to do do I really need to remove the stock ECU or could i use a piggy back to use all the gauges I want and lappy hookup?

I just mainly want the 1jz, but use all aftermarket digi autometer gauges and be able to lappy tune and diag. suggest me a product and i'll do the research, I just don't know what exactly it is i'm looking for.

There is plenty of stand alone ECUs worth while to install.
Motec, wolf, AEM stinger, AEM EMS, Hall Tech, Micro Tech, Etc...
To my knowledge FconproV is as close as you can get to standalone HKS
There only problems were controlling VVTI but had the software abillity to controll it but cost alot of $$ to tune. Only HKS can play with the ECU no one else can such as a normal dyno shop down the street.
The APEXI FC is a more advanced fuel controller it uses oem ECU and piggy backs.

I think Motec
AEM EMS, Wolf for sure have a plug and play harness for the 2jzgte harness
So if you dont want to do wiring buy the corresponding 2jzgte harness then just plug it in tune the standalone & drive.

For an afordable killer plug & play EMS go with AEM stinger from arron @ DM

For the amount you spend on buying individual gauges to build your own cluster you might as well buy a aftermarket cluster that puts everything in 1 LCD screen.

If you are all out convinced to build all out cobalt gauges! scan the font build custom gauge faces so all the ones you dont change match your after market gauges then switch the backlighting to the same color LEDs repaint the back of the needles red for instance if the gauge needles are red etc... customize your factory gauges to match that is what I am doing!

I don't think its called a AEM Stinger, AEM only makes the EMS and a assortment of guages and sensors.
The Stinger is just Called the Stinger EMS. Driftmotion sells them

86.5 is supposedly the lightest mk3, so youll be pretty quick, although youll have to custom fab the mounts or get the BIC adapters. if you want a cheap standalone theres also megasquirt, which is probably what ill end up doing.

Whats the third AEM? I know the one everyone thinks about is the AEM based out of Cali. Then the AEM that has the stinger that a couple people have suggested is based out of Australia.

Im all About AEM or Motec or any EMS that will be able to use the Knock sensors. Any ECU that doesn't use them is williing to blow up your engine if it's not properly tuned. Knock is not audible untill it's to late. If anyone tells you that it audible, they are playing with fire. Even if the Air fuel is perfect and all other vitals check out, it takes just the right amount of timing to make your piston look like a wad of paper with any kind of fuel. Just my .02 cents
