First and foremost I wish to extend a big “Thank You” to those who displayed their awesome Supras at the spring, 2008 Food Lion AutoFair. This time around we were dedicated 10 display spaces and we came showing in fine style. Even though the weather was less than ideal for an auto show we had 9 out of 10 spots filled. We would have had a full house if it were not for slow delivery of the passes to one individual. They showed up on Saturday morning (day of show), a full week + after I had sent them. Grrrr!
The variety was a nice mix of flavors; 3 MKII, 2 MKIII, 4 MKIV…and one die-hard attendee even though he didn’t have his Supra with him, Roger. We also had a lot of new, AutoFair first-timers. Great to have new individuals interested in the event.
Due to the soggy weather we were moved from our original location of the grass between pit road and the front stretch to a former display location under the grand stands. There were no assigned club locations along the mezzanine so it was first come, first serve, general parking for the clubs. Even though we arrived a little earlier than previous shows, we still found ourselves out witted by all the other clubs who showed up even earlier knowing that space would be limited. Arriving to the track and driving along the mezzanine we treated all the other clubs with a courtesy drive-by. Wanting to make certain that ALL the clubs located under the grand stands knew that the Supras had arrived we drove to the tippy-top end located at turn 4. With nowhere else to go and no other clubs to strut in front of, all of us performed a U-turn in unison and began our journey back to the front. Once again gracing the scene with our awesome Supra presence. We returned to an open location near the main entrance/front tower of the speedway. As mentioned, the exact location of a previous AutoFair. I had seen it on the way in but wanted to take a scenic drive and check out all the other clubs from the comfort of my Supra. LOL! Yeah, yeah. That’s it.
Though it’s not as pleasant as it would have been outside, considering the damp weather it was nice to be under cover…minus the leaky drips from above. We did our best at last minute detailing and proceeded with the judging. As mentioned in one of the first posts, I tried a new format for judging this time around. Due to the classifications chosen for the trophies I felt it might be best to keep the judging within the club. Supra owners know the cars and what may have come as a stock item and when work has been performed by the owner. Once again, in attempts to keep all gens judged equally the categories were “Best of Show”, “Best Original” and “Best Modified”. After all the votes were tallied congratulations go to:
“Best of Show” – Chris Briggs, 1998 Quicksilver Twin Turbo
“Best Original” – Mike Garner, 1984 Two tone P-Type (lots of dedication to keeping it original)
“Best Modified” – Tonney Neouv, 1993 ArRENst me Red single
Everyone is always a winner at the AutoFair. Another fun selection of door prizes was once again awarded to all those on display. A bountiful bevy of useful and/or humor prizes to use at the discretion of the recipients. Congratulations to all and another Thank You to all in attendance.
The fall AutoFair takes place in September. I hope to see a lot of returning faces and Supras.
An idle mind is the best way to relax.
