fog lights rewire

previous owner did some sort of hack job wiring so they only worked sometimes. SO i ripped out all the wiring for them. Now I would like to re wire them but what can I wire them into? I don't care if there on all the time thats fine by me. There are also some sort of round aftermarket fog light.

sorry guess i should have stated better. Is there any wire in or near the engine bay that I can tape into for a power when the car is on? I don't want to run my fog light wires all the way to my dash..

that would causes them to be on even when the car is off thus draing my battery :nono:

Im looking for a power source that is live when the car is on much like the ciggerate lighter I use for my glow gauges

If the aftermarket fog lights work, I would remove those and use the wiring and switch for those.

im sure you could run a relay off somethingin the engine bay electrical box, just use a testlight or voltmeter to see what has power only when the key is on, or only ground when the key is on, then run a relay off of that dont tap directly into it

Splice them into the side markers, then they'll be on whenever your driving lights are on.

What I'm reading is that you don't want to bother with a switch, you just want the fogs to come on when the ignition is on, and off when it isn't, correct?

1. Use a relay. There isn't really anything suitable for direct power use, but there may be a few things that can you can use a relay from.

The tach signal (the neg terminal on the igniter, also avaolable at the diagnostic plug) only has a positive signal at all when the ignition is firing. A diode and a capacitor would smooth this out to be a good enough signal for a relay. No ignition, no fog lights. This would mean that the fog lights are on only when the engine is actually running, and not just when the ignition switch is on.

I have mine wired to an ignition power source in the dash, going to the factory fog light switch, so I can switch them off if I want, but then I'm not all that bothered by running yet another wire to my dashboard.

I was just thinking the exact same thing. not sure wich wire is ground and wich is postive though but I will figure it out.

If it wasn't snowing I'd go outside and take a look at which ones I spliced into.

I doubt the previous owner ripped them out all the way back to the source? There has to be some origional wire somewhere left. I'd say try to find that.

ok found the orginal wires and spliced into them. Works like a charm and I can even use the fog light switch in the cab! couldn't have worked out any more perfect!:icon_razz
