Hey guys i'm not necessarily talking about the fog light rewire to come on without headlights, but have you guys noticed the OEM fog light is a bit too dim? its because it has the small square reflector/light block thing inside keeping more light from shining, has anybody removed that without having to separate the housing and the lens and gluing it back together?i just wanted to know since it is kind of a hassle to have to do that and id really not want to break anything.. if anyone has done this to their fogs let me know, thanks

They're called blinders and they're to stop direct view of the bulb. The reflector is what actually shapes the beam and puts it where it's supposed to go. If they're dim, replace the bulbs and clean the wiring (or rewire with relays). Also, the inside chroming on the reflector may be coming off as well, not to mention most of the lenses look frosted from being sandblasted by 20 years of road dirt...

In other words, leave them alone unless you like glaring people and losing the actual function of the fog lights.

I had a thread on this exact topic.

On 89+ Foglamps only Euro and USDM lamps have the blinders in them. JDM units do not. Do they make a difference? Yes they do. Do they glare? A little bit. Is the glare as bad as everyone is making it out to be? No. This is of course with a halogen bulb, a HID bulb is a different story.

Between my JDM Pre89 Lamps and my USDM Pre89 Lamps my JDM lamps put out much more usable light.

The ES250 uses a H3C bulb. If you have ES250 inserts they dont have the ground soldered onto the insert like the factory MK3 inserts. Anyways i think you should check your wiring. a Bad ground will cause it to dim slightly.

Many MKII guys including myself have done this mod. It definitely makes it brighter x2 but I wouldnt reccommend driving with just them at night. I did a set of fogs for the MKIII but never bothered to put them on.

"Useable light" or in other words "I don't give a shit that I'm blinding other drivers"

Hey buddy that's your definition, not mine. I believe your definition goes best with the term "Scattered Light Produced". Which is different from the term "USEable Light"
