Ok so I have Been waiting out winter to drop the motor back in but, I have a small problem. My flywheel has some small heat scoring, and I cant tell but maybe some pressure cracks a well. Now I was wondering if I should just spring for a new wheel or can I turn it on a lathe at my tech school? thanks for the help. I would have pics but cant get camera the will be up soon.

if it has ANY cracks replace it period!!! and also no brake lathe turning like MmmBoost said it has to be cut in the opposite direction that it turns to "bite" into the clutch disc to keep its grip

If you think it's cracked replace it. Don't run the risk man. I replaced mine last summer along with clutch and components, and ya the flywheel is only 70 bucks but if it only has heat scoring have someone turn it that knows how. You should be fine. Just don't mess with cracks, it'll cost you more in the end.

Thanks Ill go for a new one. Our lathes at school cut multi directional and my instructor says he has done them before but I checked and if it was ground/turned I would be in the negative for material so im gonna go with a new flywheel.

OK no go on a flywheel. Cant find one anywhere. My car Needs to be drivable A.S.A.P, and nobody has one. Only after market lightweight Steel/Aluminum ones avalible at most places ive checked, if at all. I have a Stage 2 kevlar clutch assembly for around $200, but is it worth getting a light weight Wheel as well?

duno if this is relevant or not. But i just installed a new motor and ended needing a new flywheel with my new clutch. Because of time and cost I ran it down to my buddy's machine shop and had it turned in about 20 minutes for $30 even. Call your local machine shops or any1 that would have a lathe. Good Luck. (sry, but i only read page 3 of this post;)

Autozone sells flywheels they just have to get one in and they are 70$

Just my opinion here but give me an engine that runs good and is fun to drive with the bulky oem flywheel for example compared to a flywheel you should order by the dozen. Some racing parts just have zero longevity.

I say it to as in turn the rotors, but flywheels are supposed to be ground with a circular stone bit.

See now ive been to autozone, advance, carquest, and they all said all they could get was an aftermarket lightweight, and that it would have to be a custom order. i tried to shop around nobody will get them in st louis for me. I recently met my biological father, and he wants to spend all this money on me, and as a supra owner all i did was this :evil2:. He plain wants to pay for everything i guess to make up for 20 years gone, but im saying no right now what do you guys think?

What is this Dr. Phil????

When did this become days of our lives???

It doesn't even warrant an opinion. Jeeeees, nancy

Have him buy you a new honda or Nissan and be gone.

I lived in the Lou for a bit..., and if you can't find an oem flywheel you need to get off your backside and make some real phone calls.

Come in here crying....., WTH?

LOL Ive checked Autozone, Advanced, O reillys. Sat on the phone in the shop today for almost an hour with the our Car Quest rep as he called EVERY number he had. And im telling you They CANT get a OEM replacement in St louis. Autozone's web site says they have them But The two ive been to Say The do not have any to even ship up from anywhere. I drive an N/A and I dont "need" A lightweight. so that puts me up Fecal Creek With a Frisbe for a flywheel.
