Hey Guys!

So just a bit of background - I spun a rod bearing at the end of last year which obviously meant an entire rebuild.Only bought the car for a month before that and I knew it was rough but my car was really messed with before I bought it.

Ended up needing a new diff , new fuel tank, new brakes. Threw in trd cams, forged pistons, skimmed and decked head and block ,mhg ,arp studs etc… took me 10months and about $10 000 but ive finally got the engine in and the car is almost ready to go except…I CANT GET ANY FLYWHEELS BOLTS for the 7MGTE paired with an AUTO A340 transmission. The manual ones are easy to find but the automatic ones are damn near impossible.

So in short Im in desperate for flywheels bolts for a 7mgte pared to the auto tranny that came in the 1987 Turbo Supras.

These bolts are the only thing holding my car back from completion after 10months of work .Can anyone help?

I live in Sydney 2207. Willing to pick up , pay for postage , whatever , its just that time is a factor. Ive seen them on horsepower freaks but postage for USA will take forever.

Everything I'm looking up is telling me that the ARP Flywheel bolts are the same as the ARP Flexplate bolts for the 7M. To be sure, you should definitely give them a call and try to grab a part number off of them for both auto and manual cars.

Talk to Rich from SIP, he's a member here: http://www.supramania.com/forums/member.php?2386-suprarich

He has tons of experience shipping all over the world, and seems to have a very good parts selection available.

In a pinch, you should be able to get something suitable from any specialty fastener shop... or, for that matter, get something machined. It's only 6 bolts, it's not going to break the bank either way. All you need to know is the size, thread pitch, and length.

iirc the MT bolts are twice as long as the auto bolt. should be able to go any bolt place and find them, just take an auto bolt in and say you need 6 twice the length.

Why not just stop by your local Toyota dealership and have them order you a set?

True enough... I was thinking they must be unavailable if he's having such a problem getting them. Pretty sure they are on this page: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/EPC/291420/catalog.aspx?F=3502&P=1

Part number 90109-10037
~$3 each from a good Toyota parts department, probably 4 times that from a crappy one. :)

Apparently the OEM ones have extremely high tensile strength which is why we cant go to a fastener shop and pick up some. Also , I didnt even know those existed in Sydney.

ANyway , my mechanics sister had a baby, so Im going to have to wait another day to see if they fit or not.

After that , its just hooking up the computer , a few small things here and there and im back in a Supra after almost a year of waiting. What a nightmare build!

Ok , so they didn't fit. Damn! Im taking all the info ive collected from everywhere and im showing it to my mechanic , but his response is that he already knows all that...then why cant he get the bolts?? He says he is looking every time I ask him. And its not that he likes taking his time , he already has lost 2 jobs because my car is stuck in his shop , so he wants to get it done as bad as I do.

I mean after everything Ive heard , surely they cant be non existent in Sydney, or even so rare that my mechanic had to go through 3 different suppliers and still not find the right one!

I cant believe this , my car is being held back because of 6 fuckin bolts and theres nothing I can do. :(

I cut down a set of 4ag ARP's when I went auto.

hey IJ, where you also unable to source the correct bolts? You had the A340e tranny as well?

Ive heard this "cutting down ARP bolts" a few times before...but this leads me to believe the part that was meant to go there is extremely hard to find?

I simply cant accept that my mechanic ( who is an extremely talented individual) is unable to source 6 bolts after knowing everything that everyone on here has told me. Pitch, length - everything.he has ALL the specs. Is there something somewhere on the tranny or the crank that we should be looking at more closely? Did a few mutant mk3's come with different brackets. I don't know whats going on.....

He has worked on a few mk3's before but never an auto one. Is there anything a person should look for if they are bolting up the a340e tranny for the first time? (are there any tips and tricks that should be known when putting the tranny and engine in) .Maybe he is missing something...

Well, the one I use apparently does not, however, it does look like they have something in Singapore. http://www.fastenal.com

These guys carry high strength bolts - they've often had to order stuff in for me, however, it's rarely taken more than a couple days. To be honest, I'd be shocked if there wasn't a similar kind of vendor in Australia as well, or these guys would have expanded there already.

As for the machining option, Ron, one of the local crazy builders, picked up some ridiculously strong billet and had it machined into studs he wanted. As I understand it, this was really expensive - near $100 per stud, all in, however, it still ended up with him getting exactly the gear he wanted. Admittedly, this might not be an option in your case - I don't recall the application Ron was using these for, and drive line is probably the highest stress in the system, even so, it bears looking into as a last resort.

Or, as Ian pointed out, if you're not planning on going over 500+ hp, just use new stock ones from Toyota.
