okay so on the way to school today i noticed my oil pressure was at zero. As i started in first it rose in synchronization with the revs. I dont even know what the oil pressure is supposed to be at or if its supposed to change. this is my first supra. the car usually smells of oil after being driven hard and leaks a little also, i got under the car and it looked like it was from up higher as it was running down some other stuff. im going to change it soon, anyone have any oil recommendations? i live in iowa so it gets pretty cold.

thanks in advance

Exactly where do you refer to as "higher up"? You have to try and pinpoint the almost exact location of the leak, or at least find the trail so you can follow it. And yes, you're supposed to have a bit of pressure even at idle and it slowly goes up along with engine speed. 0 oil pressure at engine idle speed is a really bad thing assuming that the stock gauge isn't off on its readings.

Your using the stock gauge arent you? If so, try to get an aftermarket one, and itll read differently more then likely. As for the leak up "higher", what side of the engine is it on? If its on the turbo side, check the return line and feed lines for the turbo. Also check your valve cover gaskets. I bet they are probably toast.

it was super cold this morning here we had frost for the first time and the car would cut out and lag under full throttle, particularly when boosting. any way the needle reads a little above zero and goes up to around 40psi i think, whatever the middle of the gauge is.

the leak is in the front of the motor behind the cam gears i believe. ill check the valve cover gasket tomorrow. any suggestions on oil or where i can find info to soak up?

Behind the cam gears up top? Like right on top of them, in front of the valve covers? Or is it even lower, where the camshafts come out to hook up to the cam gears?

As for information on oil and all that jazz, head on over to the Engine oil and lubrication area here in the forum. The stickies there will be among the best you'll ever find.
